I didn't replace them on my Escort, but I did on a couple others. I got them at Canadian Tire. I know JC whitney has them too, but I never order things from the States.

I'm not sure about the wagon with www.rockauto.com , on their site the don't mention anyting about the wagon. Are the same? Not sure.
I've yet to change mine. MadBrad, Do you simply pop them out? Or do you need to unbolt them frist?
I never even looked there when I had my EGT. SO I don't know how they go on. All the different cars have different ways. Some have a ball joint and some have a big torx screw, and there are a few other ways.
I'm sure the cheapies are fine. I never had trouble with them.

I am a Canadian transplant here in NC. I do miss Canadian Tire!!!! There is nothing really like it here. When I go back to Canada I do two things; go to Tims for a double double and go to Canadian Tire and just walk around... and around... and around.... and around....and I always find something to bring back here.

I just replaced mine with ones from Napa. One of them is sufficient to hold up the rear hatch (and open it almost on its own!). Be careful, however, their computer thinks that a 1992 wagon is the same as a hatchback. The hatchback has very different struts. If you tell them 1991, however, the wagon will pop up and you will get the right struts. They were 21.xx each. If you like, I can look for the part numbers at home when I get there and post sometime this weekend.

Not sure if you already fixed your problem, but when I saw a hatchback in the junkyard with only 56k miles on it i decided since mine were on the verge that I would pick them up. so for 8 dollars i got two perfectly working struts. To answer the mechanical question, the ones i got bolted into the frame and hatch.

I remember that when I replaced mine, the new ones didn't look like they were the correct replacements. But they were. I think they just unscrew or pop out. It's much easier with a friend, that hatch is heavy.

Damn! The ball joints just snapped apart! I didn't think ANYTHING in life could be that easy! And to think I spent all day yesterday carefully reading the directions that came with the new struts on how to remove and reinstall!
