I have an escort that says sunsport on the side along with an extra wide pinstripe. The only things that seems different than a regular GL is it had a sunroof(seemed installed by previos owner) GT alloy wheels(probably also put on by previous owner) and the thermostat housing was thick cast aluminum instead of the usual steel, hopefully I will post pictures of the housing and see what you guys think. What makes me wonder about this Sunsport deal is I seen another sunsport escort and the other day I seen a newer Cavalier "Sunsport"

The sunsport came stock with the sun roof. I don't believe the wheels were stock on there, but maybe they were. Other than that, there was really no difference.

What year is this Escort?
I know on the 1991-1996 models, a "sunsport" is a LX Sport with sunroof and I think power windows.

Okay I see, It is an early eighty-eight, I thought the sunroof thing made sense, the reason I thought maybe a previous owner installed it is because the somewhat messy silicone seal job and the fact that the roof looks like it is stressed abit to fit it-----that is, it has two large and shallow dents in the roof that do not pop back and stay, I think I should re-install it sometime and try to straighten the roof up.

If you are not sure if it's a factory or aftermarket sunroof, post some pics here.

I'm guessing that it's a factory sunroof and that maybe the drain holes are clogged and someone tried to seal it up thinking that is was a gasket problem.

The car also had big black leather seats in it that had black and white checker pattern in the middle of them, I think they were from a Mustang: definitely not Sunsport issue.

That sunroof looks to me like it's a manual pop-up. Would factory have used a manual pop-up, and not electric?

I think so, my friend has an eighty-nine Probe and it has a very similar sunroof, and my Merkur has a roof that pops up or slides back and in----depending on which way you turn the manual crank.

yea my merkur is the same way 1988. my 3rd escort had a stock sun roof, it was a pop up style and removable.

I have the same car at the moment it has the sunroof and fancy wheels but windows are wind up. Really love the car
