Well thanks to too much tuition reimbursement from work, i got a grand comin to me. In about 2 weeks i'm having a GTX engine shipped from corksport.

My question is this.....What will i need to make this run like a STOCK setup....Right now, i just wanna get the thing running in the stock setup.
If it doesnt come with an ecu, will my 1.8 ecu work? Will i need a new wiring harness? My transmission will bolt up w/ no problems right??

Basically, i need someone WHO has a GTX engine and they swapped it in their GT so i know exactly what i'll need to get it to a STOCK setup....I'm not too familiar w/ what ecu and stuff the gtx engine uses. Will i need to do any cooling system upgrades? I just wanna make sure that everything i got for my GT will bolt up incase its just the short block i'm buying and if not, what i will need to get extra to get it complete.

NO turbo timers, BOV, boost controllers....nothing until i get it running in complepte stock..

Also, since i'll have the gtx engine, neone want my GT engine?? It runs great, just has a little bit of an oil burn...

sigh....i ve been there but he doesnt say how to do it.....

i've hear the j-spec engines have reverse wire harnesses....am i gonna be able to use my factory wire harness with that motor...

i've done about 2 hours of research and have found no one w/ a guide at all....

i know how to swap an engine....i just need to know these things

1) can i use my BP ecu?
2)can i use my wire harness....if so, will i have to modify the wire harness to fit anything new?
3)will i have to get a new cooling system to fit the turbo?

has anyone done the swap or someone you konw done the swap?

I kinda need to know otherwise i'm cancelling the order before its too late.

yeah!

if you go to the swap guide, it will tel you everything you need to put it in your car!
wiring harness al all the little things you would need, and recomended!

it tells you you need a wire harness, and ecu, so then you would have to get them!

it gices a list in the swap giude, just pick the click on top for escort gt 1.8

it will tell you everything you need, to a apexi comp, top fual pump and all.
boost controller, to gaskets. if you need more, maybee get a manual for the car the motors come from, and look at it would say how it goes together cause you areswaping almost everything, just need to mate the non engine parts.

if you go to erdt, there is like 4 people who have done it!

at least 3 with gt, one had an lx.

mysta316 did it to an lx, and he works at corksport, and he is running like low 13 so you might want to ask him !

sigh.... i dont think u understand...i DO KNOW HOW TO READ....

can anyone answer this one question. PLEASE...just this one question...

WILL MY STOCK ECU AND WIRE HARNESS WORK WITH THE GTX MOTOR!!!

i KNOW its says i need one and i KNOW it says nothing more...BUT IF U NOTICE, it also says i need parts from my gt motor when i already got them, so OBVIOUSLY, they are counting that you dont already have ANY of the parts...

just someone w/ knowledge about it, tell me if my gt ecu and wireharness will plug in w/ no problems to MAKE A STOCK GTX.

I'm thinking your stock ECU will work, just unplug the negative battery cable and step on the brakes for a few seconds. Then reconnect the battery and the computer will relearn the fuel curves needed for that engine.

The GT motor is the same as the GTX motor, only the compression ratio is slightly lower and the exhaust manifold is different on the GTX. It's the same exact engine, with slight differences. It should bolt right into your car and onto your transmission. Although I don't know how well your stock tranny will hold up to having 53 more hp on it.

well....its a jspec engine....i heard something about it being a different wire harness or something...but then again, i hear its same engine all the time...so i'm really confused...i want the damn thing, but i dont wanna get it if i cant just bolt her in and go. right now, im just looking for stock,, get it running, work it in, and then worry bout other shit later....

has anyone done it here on feoa?

Well if you're in such a rush and you don't want to throw your cash away, wait for it then. You can always find a bank with the highest interest rates in town and throw all 1k into it and let the interest accrue...in a year or so you could have $1100 8)

the cash isnt the prob james...i've got it....sittin at home in actuall cash...its mine to spend...

reasons for doing it..

1) my engine aint gonna last all that long..i'm having to put in a quart of oil every 300 miles....it smokes horribly....

i dont have time to rebuild...nor the tools....can u imagine how hard and risky its gonna be to try to get that old engine out by unbolting head and intake and exhaust manifolds??

2)i want power....

so i'm consolidating them both by gettin the gtx engine...

all the shit is already hooked up that i was worried about stripping....all i'm gonna do is hack my exhaust off my car now and lift out the old engine and throw in the new one, take to an exhaust shop and get custom....

basically, if i get the asnwers, i do it mysefl, if not, it has to go into a shop for like 50 bucks an hour for like 15 hours of work...comprendo?

yeh i talked to him already....he's gonna help me w/ my swap....lives about 20 mins away from me. thanks wicked.

he finally answered why the ecu and wiring harness cant be used....

various sensors use more wires on that engine....same block and shit, but different wiring completely

argh... piece of shit html... looks like I can't do what I originally wanted to do. hm. oh well, looks like I will just waste space and tell you nonsense about my plans.

I'm planning on doing the swap next summer. So far I've got like 1500 saved up. And I'm planning on doing it the RIGHT way...

FIRST comes the fuel management, then ignition (MSD 6A or better), then the boost controller/gauges, then the intercooler, then the BOV, and FINALLY the engine...

I figure if I get a 1000 dollar speeding ticket for a some reason and can't do the install, at least I'll have a killer fuel management and a bunch of flashy little things I can rice my ride out with. :)

Dude, you are in for a very very rude awakening if you think this swap is going to be plug and chug.

I'm helping a friend who is swapping an engine/tranny from one jeep to another very similar jeep, and we've been working on it on an off for the last 2 weeks. It's not just "plop in and drive".

Right now we are working on completely re-vamping the wiring harness. It's a lot of work... don't underestimate it.
When we first started this, we expected everything to just drop in and re-plug it up. Totally wrong. Even the driveshaft needed to be cut and re-welded. The master brake cylinder didn't clear the intake plenum... just tons and tons of shit to trudge through.

And I doubt your GT ECU will work with the GTX. Chances are you will also have to learn to rewire some things on the harness too.

well i did my tranny myself....i know engines and i know the gt engine.....

like i said, only thing i needed to figure out was the ecu/ wire harness....
which i figured out...10 wires need splicing. i've got the diagram, i'm an eet major, wires and me go along....i'll have it done in one weekend....
i called corksport, the engine i'm getting already has an ecu and the wire harness w/ it, has the a/c compressor too....it was cut about 5 inches off the down pipe.... only thing i need is this...

alternator---pullin off my gt
VAF--have one from an rx-7 already
fuel pump---gettin one from a turbo 626 at a junkyard

unlike everyone else, i'm not intercooling it yet, nor am i puttin a boost controler or a turbo timer or a BOV..

i just want mine stock for now...

the only thing i was worried about was the radiator fan gettin in the way and the downpipe flange..but since i got the down pipe flange on that engine already and the guy from erdt that lives in columbus told me the radiator fan doesnt get in the way...i got this on dubs...

i expect to get engine in 4 to 5 weeks and expect to get it done in like 6 weeks...

Do me (and others) a favor...

-keep track of all expenses, all parts bought/installed
-pics! lots of them!

I think I will probably do exactly what you are doing. Get the basic engine and then upgrade all the stuff from there. I know that contradicts what I said in my previous post. Sue me. :)

i just wont have cash for nething more for the engine...so i'll get my stock setup done...cuz atleast i'll be able to race in the stock class for autocross...

i will pics and i will list everything.

well i have some info for the gtx swappers out there...

these are the things you have to cover...

1) need to get jspec engine, wire harness and ECU... ALL GTX components....

2)there are 10 wires located underneath the dash that have to be spliced into the jspec wire harness.... the reason for this is the BP has 2 white plugs compared to the one white plug on the gtx ecu....

3) The stock escort gt fuel pump can be used for the fuel delivery ONLY if you are using stock boost...there will be no fuel cut out whatsoever....

4) must fabricate the required intake pipes for the turbo..

5) radiator fan will NOT interfere unless an intercooler is added....then u'll need to do some special routing..

Everything else can be used from the gt...
