Hey, getting a car ready to run here in MO. I am building a 98 SE, 4dr. with the 2.0 SPI. It is currently gutted out. I am waiting on my cage from Davis motorsports to get here. All the pipes are pre bent and all you have to do is weld them together. Not bad for 325$. The scort will be competing in what they call the Enduro Class at I-70 Speedway in Odessa. It is a 1.2 mile track, and was used by the Nascar Craftsmen Truck Series a few years ago. The cars in the class are different to say the least, there is only two other Fords on the track, a ZX2, and a (Mercury)Topaz. Both of them are running towards the front of the pack. The cars to beat right now are the CRX's. The rules are pretty vague as to what you can do and what you cant do. It states that you have to run FWD, 4 cylinder cars. Keep them as stock as possible, and tires can be no bigger than 195/60/14. I used to race back a coupel of years ago at I-44 Speedway when it was asphalt, and I could make my big old Malibu corner on the same size tires, so this thing is really going to fly. It is about 1000 pounds lighter.

Currently I am racing at Dells Motor Speedway in WI Dells, WI. http://www.dellsmotorspeedway.com/. I currently am 4th in points but gaining fast. I have also ran Columbus 151 Speedway http://racingonline.com/columbus151/ . We stopped going there only because we had better runs at Dells Motor Speedway.

I know what you mean by those darn CRX's. Actually anything from Honda will run darn good on a circle track. They are very fast to say the least. We outlawed CRX's at our primary track. It has made it closer door to door action. Which the crowd loves. Nothing like going 3 or 4 wide thru the corners and holding your breath that everyone sticks.

And at the Dells, every driver is super. If one of us breaks down, everyone is jumping in to make sure they make the feature. Kind of sucked Saturday night, because I gave a guy a quart of Lucas Trans fluid only to have him burn up an axle and spray my own fluid onto my car and tires. Ended up 7th. But thats racing on WI short tracks.

I was encourage anyone to give it a try. Contact some businesses and tell them your plans. Charge $200 for their name to go on your car. $500 for the hood. Take that money and build your race car. If you try it once, they will have to pry your hands from the steering wheel. It is a white knuckle trip that gets you so pumped up that all you'll remember is the green flag and then the checkered flag. Thank Goodness my crew video tapes. But it's a rush that you'll thrive on all week.

I found that the best sponsorship to get is the local newspaper. I asked them to put my car in the paper at least twice during the racing year. The advantage to this is that you can use this to get more sponsors. It costs a lot to put in an advertisement in the paper. Here is a chance for a free ad by putting their name on the car. It has helped me tremendously in the past. Also pass on to potential sponsors that it is a tax write off if they sponsor you.

Which tracks you run at custom? I know where there are plenty of 1st gen HO motors are at, as I have scavenged the headers off of most of them.

hotrodjim72, how good of shape are the headers ? Most of my local pull-a-parts have crushed everything from 90 on back. I need a good header.

hey, Wislawman, are you running tomorrow night (June 30th) in the "Mid-west Championship Weekend - Limited late "100" - Bandit "30" " ?

I noticed on the Dells Speedway site that it's a point event, so I figure you might be going. I might come up there and watch if you'll be there. should be fun.

Dells Motor Speedway

Yes, I will be there. Blue # 5 Ford Escort. Should be a tough group of racers coming up for that. Hope we do well against the Hondas.

Cool, I'll try to make it up there to watch! I'll warn you, though, that if my parts come in for my Volvo, I'll probably be working on that instead though. ;)

The headers that I have are in real good shape. I usually pull them and then have all the welds redone on them and all the holes filled on them, like the egr pipe. The factory welds tend to be really crappy after 20 years plus on some. I will send you one if you are interested, just make the price worth it to me LOL. Just PM me, I will hook you up. You guys in WI are from my original neck of the woods anyways. I am from the U.P. originally.

I run an 89 EGT at a short track in north west Indiana 1/4 & 1/2 mile asphalt and our class is called purestock and the rules prohibit modifiying anything on the motor and suspension but everyone tries to get away with it anyway, I run a single OHC even though we can run DOHC as i find i can hang with the DOHC guys for the most part but need to find more power to really compete,

great site!

Are they scoping your heads to see if you are porting them out? If not, open those heads up and you should have that extra power you need.

We used to run until we sold our 94 escort gt because we got banned from the track for fighting hehe. I guess people don't like you when you beat them and you aren't cheating and they are.

Currently I am racing at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA. 1/3 mile high banked clay oval. I run a 94 Escort 2dr with a 1.9L. They allow us minor mods. Required roll cage and racing safety gear. This weekend is our last. Three day event across two tracks. Visit www.skagitspeedway.com. Don't know how to post photos, or I would.
