Hi All,

My name is Wes and I’ve been lurking for a few weeks and decided to introduce myself.

I live in rural Indiana and work in town at a gas station. About six weeks ago I bought a 1995 Escort GT to replace my dead Jeep. I really like the car and the better gas mileage!

I’ve read a lot of great things here on this forum and now seem to check in every day to learn more. I am already eyeballing another EGT for sale in town!

Anyway, great forum and thanks for all the info on repair and maintenance.

Welcome to the forums. Do they use much salt on the roads in winters where you live? If so, it might be worthwhile to have a look at the brake lines at the back of the car. Mine were so badly rusted (on a car that spent its life in northern Virginia) that I had to replace them; they rusted through. The worst area was not visible until I was really underneath. It was up beside the gas tank.

My 86 Jeep Commanche is fun, but the Escort rides a lot better, and gets 40 mph on the open road. Its a 5 speed, like the Jeep. The Jeep is lucky to get 25 mpg when I have nothing in it, and 15 around the sububs.

They don't use much salt where I live, mostly sand, but I got the car from Michigan City area and will check the lines... as soon as I get it running again!
Man, 40mpg!!!!...My best so far is 29.8 avg. but I am still working on it and am looking at the non GT 2nd gen 1.9L as a better option for mileage. Thanks.

around here... Seems like a great platform to master due to price, mileage, avail, and design.
