I ordered my manifold from England.. and had my cash ready for my turbo kit and ready to buy all the parts off a parts car...

then someone I know offered to sell me his 89 SHO for 1k. it has some body rust but the engine was Flawless...

I took her for a spin...

I was youstu my clutch in my EGT and laid down a 20 footer...

I looked up what the sho is all about and snapped it up the next day!

0-60 in 6.6 seconds. and power all the way up the RPM range.

I was thinking of keeping my EGT and doing a rebuild on the motor now I have another car to DD wtih.

or I could sell the mani cuz the SHO is more powerful stock as the turbo scort was going to be...

do you guys think re-sale would be worth it? I paid 275 shipped + duties/taxes at my door. Canadian.

I am not looking for profit or anything.. just wondering if there is any demand for them...

thanks

I wouldn't blame you for fixing up the SHO...they are a really fun drive for a big car. I remember the first time I drove one of those back when I worked as a porter as a dealership...I had to ask someone if it was RWD because it felt so balanced & powerful compared to any other FWD I had driven to that point (ok I was only 17 but still).
To Jeff's point, the Escort is a much more capable performance vehicle, by weight alone. That said, it will take a lot more time, effort, and potentially cash to make the Escort put out lots of power (read: turbo). If you get the SHO running right & restore/upgrade bushings/suspension/etc...it would be a nice DD that is fun to drive.

thanks for the responses.

and jeff... it's actually 190 hp at the wheels

220 @ the crank and 200ft lb's tq that's stock. with a custom y pipe and cats like 250.

they are quick cars. mid 14's stock depending on the driver but most people can hit 15.00 stock and the 89's are the lightest and the quickest.

I was thinking of putting it in the scort the sho engine that is.

the thing is it does all this stock and the scort with 1000's of mods to ge the same. if I put 1000's of mods into the sho. I could hit 500whp.

but besides the point... I wonder why the mani would only get 200 when clearly it costs way more when shipped from the UK.?

hmm I will keep the scort as the DD. and see if I can talk my bud into finding a vulcan v6 tranny so I can swap the engine into my scort cuz it's my 1 love and best favorite car with like 0 rust and all original body wicked stuff.

just with a sho engine in it. I will probably be able to get 0-60 in 5 seconds or less.

like the Festiva SHOGUN.

thank again guys. the Sho is Fugly but it can hand alot of 30,000 dollar cars their respective azz'es

put catless exhaust and a 75 n20 shot on the sho with good fuel management and you are laughing. 300 flywheel easily.

Sho engine +underdrive pulley= 10K RPM all day long.

10K Sho + Escort =Fun.
Until your legs mysteriously end up with chucks of exploded clutch and transmission in them... 10k land is not a good place for a street car to be, unless it's rotary. But, then you really don't have any rules anyway. ;)

You guys are funny, you WILL NOT achieve 10,ooo rpm, with an underdrive pulley on an SHO, not gonna happen. Honestly, even most of the FI SHO's don't constantly pull much over 7,000 unless they are doing dyno pulls or just showing off. Even then theres only a few that have had the balls to take their engines past 7,500, it takes too much money to build up one of these 3.0/3.2 engines, just to go "trying" to blow it back up being stupid.
