So, with the Celica being far beyond DD status at this point, and my girlfriend learning to drive the Escort to replace her Tore-ass, i decided i needed something else.

Had to be cheap, had to keep me from falling asleep, had to be DD'able. Everything else was fair game.

The KLZE Protege fell through. It started to get real sketchy, and i decided that for $1500 + fixing other issues and driving far to get it, it wasn't worth it. Sorry. I know you all would have loved to see/hear that.

Almost bought a 1g CRX Si in full CSP autocross trim for $1200. Yes, i would have daily driven that, no problems. It had an interior and an intact exhaust.

I had the chance to buy back my old 1993 Celica GT Coupe for $1500. Decided i didn't want another Celica. This current one is my last one.

Soooooooo.......

I am now the proud owner of a 1990 Mazda MX6 GT Turbo. For the princely sum of $950. It's pretty clean, runs like a top, and it's different.

Oh. Yeah. It's turbo.

It has a Mkiii Supra turbo on it, with MKiii Supra Turbo injectors. FMIC, greddy type S bov, tial 38mm wastegate, and my favorite part: A 3' exhaust run straight out the side of the bumper, with the wastegate dumped into it as well.

The spooling noise is ridiculous.

It's only running 7psi right now. I rolled into it at 45mph yesterday in 3rd gear, and the tires let go after it hit full spool. So... yeah. It's pretty interesting.

Next up? Wideband, ecu chip, and turning the boost to 14psi.

I will get pics as soon as i can.

But for now, here's the for sale ad that i got it from.

if i ever were to make my escort track only, it would get a new downpipe just like that. lol

driving that on the street is going to be interesting. it WILL shoot flames, you know that right?
Oh it does.... i've already put 300 miles on it.

It shoots good 3 foot flames sometimes on decel, and every once in a while on a 2-3 shift. It's amusing. The spooling noise echoes off of everything i drive past, even if it's 50 feet off the road. My buddy could hear it a good quarter mile behind me when we were taking it home. I'll try to get a video up of it in the next week. It's hard to explain.

Bad news is, when i picked it up, i could tell that the turbo could use a rebuild, it was smoking a bit, and sounded slightly weird. So, i expected to get one in 2 months or something.

Welp, it blew up last night. Luckily, it seized due to massive shaft play, and the wheel just stopped dead on the housing. I limped it home, careful to keep it around 20psi vaccuum as much as possible. The turbo died at 7pm. I had a new polished replacement in my hands by 8:30 for $60. :D Helps to know the local Supra guys. This one is perfect.

I'll be installing it after work, making sure it's all gravy, and then going to 10psi. :)

Can't wait for my wideband and chip to come in.

Hrmmm.... interesting. I'll keep that in mind next spring when the Celica comes out of hiding again. Right now it's just DD status, though, i'm just going to get it cleaned up and make use of my extra fuel.

On my way to work on Wednesday, i had a little run in with a new Mustang GT. He was very confused.

Just thought i'd point out that i HATE 20 year old V Band turbos.

Compressor housing needed to be clocked 180 degrees, center section needed to be clocked 90 degrees. It's been fun.

Lots.
Of.
It.

Those ct26's can handle quite a bit, I'm sure when you rebuild it, you'll turn it in to a 60 trim. Those 440cc injectors will probably be able to take it all as well.

Ehhh... for the price to upgrade it, i can score a T70 70 trim or an SC61, and have newer tech. I'm sticking with the CT26 right now because they're cheap and plentiful. :)

I'm limited to about 250whp right now because of the stock fuel pump, and i'm unsure if i care to modify it further. After all, it is just a DD. :p

Anyways.... PLX M-300 wideband and Greddy Profec B on the way. :D

How did you swing $950 for it? The FS thread said he wanted 2000. You got a damn good deal in my opinion. Real nice car. The pic showing the downpipe looks like one of the spokes on the front wheel is black. HAHA fire tire! FTW

He dropped price twice, ending up at $1000. Apparently Louisville economy sucks. I went down there, and he couldn't find the key, but the tumblers in the ignition are loose enough that i can start it with my buddy's integra key, so we dropped down another $50 to have Mazda make another key.

It's not running right now.... in the middle of a turbo replacement. Oh well. :D

Wow, it's clean for being 20 years old.
Sun roof, 5 speed and nice size turbo: I'd drive the shit out of that car!
Just need to paint the wheels flat black and lower it and it will be perfect. damn, if I needed a car I would'nt beable to pass that up for that price either.

I think i'm actually going to leave the wheels the way they are... they're growing on me. It needs to be lowered quite a bit, though. I can't help but think what the side profile would look like lowered 2-3 inches. SEXY.

Oh... and it has oscillating center vents. BALLER!!

Shopping for a CT26 57trim now.

Boost is going to 15 psi this weekend, i will report back with results. It's already damn quick on 7psi, so this should be interesting. This motor is built like a brick shithouse.

Some guy just put down 350whp/459wtq on a stock motor on Sunday. I won't go that far, but nice to know it's easily attainable and should hold up to what i'll ever do to it.

The compressor housing was cake, you shouldn't have any problems with it. It's the exhaust side that SUCKS. :(

wtf is hard about clocking a vband turbo?
Clocking the compressor housing on a VBand turbo is easy.
Clocking the compressor housing on a 2 year old Vband turbo is easy.
Clocking the exhaust housing on a Vband turbo isn't bad.
Clocking the exhaust housing on a 20 year old Vband turbo isn't easy.

;)

I had to clock the compressor 180 degrees, and the exhaust 90 degrees.
