Gettin an engine bored???

    Ok. I have a 98 zx2, 5 speed that I'm rebuilding. First project car. Everybody starts somewhere. I am considering getting the engine bored over forty. I know that either flat or slightly domed pistons give you better compression. My question is, how much difference does getting an engine bored make? Like a whole lot, moderate, or barely any difference at all?

    that all depends on what differences you are talking about. using a little more gas? getting a little more power? because either way it depends on how much you bore it out. personally when i bored out my old jeep i went with flat pistons instead of the stepped pistons that came with it and im not sure if it was just me but it felt more powerful. so i guess i would say moderate from personal experience. but good luck either way. and welcome!

    Thanks man. I was meaning more power. I'm still trying to learn about what to do to engines to get maximum performance. Oh, and where can I disconnect the limiter?

    to disconnect the limiter you pull up your plastic cup holders from the center counsel. look through the wiring harness for a white wire with a black line. you can either disconnect that or throw a switch on it. (I personally love to put switches on everything, thats sorta my thing) haha but you don't have to, you can just cut it and then tape off both ends separate. your car will probably throw out some error codes at you at first. but you can either go get them erased, or do it yourself if you have a code reader.

    the bore it self will make minimal gain. getting a 40 over bore is impossible on the zetec , you can get .07 from JE either in a 9:1 or 11:1 I believe , depends if your going all motor / nitrous or boosted. I think the biggest bore you can go is 20 over. When talking about the rev limiter I wouldn't mess with any wires like that from the PCM, if you plain to get more power and build an engine you will need a tune, so save yourself the trouble and go a head and buy an Xcal from SCT and you'll be ready to get a tune and can remove the limiter the correct way. Also don't over rev these motors .. with these type of oil pumps we have after 7200RPM you can loose oil pressure, thats up to you if you want to go over that
