Your wagon is sick bro does it have a zetec zx2 under the hood or ?
Ok so I didn't make it out to the junk yard today it was pouring rain and had to work late anyway I was thinking about it today at work and I remember reading this bit on the first page about the hybrid Hybrid
The question of putting an SPI top end on a 1.9 Bottom end has be discussed, and tried. The net result is a better flowing head with a drastic drop in static compression due to the 1.9 being flat top piston and the 2.0 being domed. This is great for high boost turbocharging, but not suitable for naturally aspirated systems. So it's been done I'm wondering how it was done I remember Reading a bit that said an rpm controller had to be added to make up or run the dual ports something like that ok well in my shoes I would like to know why can't I use the 1.9 block and head only just swap those two items together in my 99 escort wagon se spi 2.0 engine bay take out the 2.0 head and block only so I would use everything stock except the 1.9 block and head can this be bolted in and run or is there a ton of sensor's on the new obd 2 setup that won't let the 1.9 run or will the manifolds not bolt up if that's the case how was the 2.0 head ran on the 1.9 2nd gen if I had time right now I'd just try it to see what happens lol because I own a few 2nd gen escorts and tracer's also just time is the main issue right now just need to get the new 3rd gen up and running ASAP as cheap as possible of course and reliable to don't want another stock 2.0 single spi motor unless the valve seats won't drop out of course somehow LoL
Zetec swap or build the hybrid that Mark(Diabloscort) built for his sedan. There's a thread he started in the engine swaps section that details what he did.
Essentially he swapped out a 2.0 SPI head for a first gen GT HO head and bolted it to the 2.0 bottom end. Doing this or any other hybrid will force you to use a standalone ECU like a Megasquirt.
My suggestion would be to swap in the Zetec and swap out the stock computer for an S/R computer. The fuel maps and other specs are more performance oriented on that and it's from the factory. This would be the easiest and cheapest way to do this. PM me if your interested in obtaining an S/R ECU and I'll quote you a price.
the zetec swap is so easy the only things i changed for the zetec was the fuel filter bracket underhood wiring used my split port manual trans on my first swap the evap bracket from the zx2 on the fire wall it will run and drive but no ac I ended up modding a zx2 wiring harness and switching it out anything you need help with let me know i have done two of these swaps
I agree but I'm biased! LOL!
When I had the SPI/F4AE the car ran fine but that annoying vibration that the SPI's tend to have was getting on my nerves. I followed the Ford announce and it did reduce some of the vibration but there was still enough that the steering wheel would vibrate pretty hard.
When I swapped the Zetec it was like night and day. Ran smooth and without issue.
I'm planning to turbo mine and put an svt focus 6 speed in my car
Don't the SVT 6 speeds have the same final drive as the G5M?
I could not find the ratios of the svt I do know it is a far stronger transmission
The SVT 6 speeds are weird, they actually have 2 final drive ratios so you need to go by overall ratio to compare one to a our transmissions. https://forums.focaljet.com/showthread.php/678002-SVT-Getrag-Tranmission-Information-Thread
It would be a lot easier and cheaper to find an MTX75 out of a Zetec Focus, they also hold quite a bit more power than our G-series and have more aftermarket support.
Really it will be about the the same amount of work to put either transmission in an escort the 6 speed is a better transmission plus it is just cool to have a 6 speed in an escort
