OK- My LX came with the standard 3-gauge cluster (no tach).
I have a 4-gauge cluster from my parts car (with tach).
Now, the connectors (3 plugs of about a dozen wires each) and the speedo cable are all that´s required to connect the cluster
to the car... BUT, here´s the rub: Each of the three connectors is wired differently, so that the swap isn´t simply ´plug and play´.
Explanation: The first contact of the left connector of the 3-gauge cluster might be for a common negative ground for the idiot lights, but the same contact on the 4-gauge cluster might be the signal lead for the tach.
Result: Unless someone here has done this swap and found a simpler solution, it seems I´ll have to push each individual wire out of it´s connector, and move each to the loction required in the same or another connector that matches the contact on the 4-gauge cluster.
If this sounds like a monster hassle...it is!! Anyone found a simple solution??
If I don´t get a solid answer within a week or so, I´ll be making the wiring changes as above. I plan to document it in detail and will post coherent instructions, including a schematic of the changes, on my site, noted below.
