K, Ive heard arguments from many people about what octane level in gasoline is best for different vehicles. Most places here in Canada have 87-89-91 octane.

I always hear that higher is better, but is there a point where its too much? Is it relative to the age and wear and tear on your vehicle.

Any educated opinions are most welcome.

Thanks guys,

Wes

ya HAD to say educated, didn´t ya?

i´ve tried each type of gas in my scort LX, and the perfromance with each higher gas was noticably better. downsides that i noticed: price gets higher (d´uh), but i wouldn´t know about anything else too rich a gas type might do in the lond run...

Well, actually your car will run better on whatever type of gas your ECU is programmed to use.
But, generally higher octane is better gas because it doesn´t explode it burns. Its burn is slightly retarded from lower octane fuels too. If you advance your timing or your running any type of forced induction or nitrous you should be using higher octane fuel.
Remember its better to run rich then lean. Running lean can destroy your engine, running rich will just cause you to fail smog, etc....
