So the new hot craze for low-lifes is to break into your car in a mall parking lot and rip stuff off. While your dealing with the police report they have your address from your registration and your garage door opener. You know, that thing that's on your sun visor 24/7/365?
They empty out your goodies in the house and when you get home with your ripped up car you find a ripped off house.
So hide the dang things if you own them. Of course some of the 1st and 2nd Gen guys don't have a garage that attaches to their house so this does not apply.
I don't have a garage, but I have a garage door opener in my Probe. Wired it so it zaps whoever pushes the button.

One suggestion might be to hide your registration (address) in your car somewhere we they won't look. Most thieves go for the easy to grab items.

The car's ownership/insurance papers aren't supposed to be kept in the car, they're supposed to be kept on the person who is driving the car, and so would be brought in to the mall with you. Of course that doesn't do anything about other mail and junk left in the car. I guess it's a wake up call not to leave any of that mail junk or receipts etc with your address on them in the car. My garage door opener remotes, in both of my cars, is mounted behind panels with a button mounted in said panel, eg the A pillar of my LTZ. No one can take the device itself. They wouldn't even know what the button is for.

Slap stickers on the doors that say "bait car" and have webcams and wires in prominent view. No one will touch it!

Wrong. Your supposed to keep your registration and insurance card in the car at all times. Anybody that keeps the ownership papers or title in there car is stupid.

    I don't have a garage door opener. :)

What's the difference between registration and ownership papers or title?

The title is like the deed to a house, its the deed to your car. The registration shows that you have registered your vehicle with the state and have a set of license plates for it. They won't give you your registration unless you can prove you own the car, have insurance on it, and (depending on the state) inspected. Once a car is old enough, depending on the state, the title isn't used anymore and the registration or bill of sale becomes proof of ownership.

Keep in mind that I am not a legal scholar so this may not be 100% accurate.

Here, they are the same piece of paper, The sales reciept is never used for anything here except to show the people who issue the aforementioned ownership paper that as I mention contains the licencing stuff too. We don't leave that in the car. Well I do when I'm lazy. The insurance card in Ontario people usually keep with the ownership. There's nothing wrong with leaving it in the car except it has the same personal info that helps thieves as the ownership so we don't. Cops ask for ownersip/reg and insurance so we always just have them together.
