alright, ive noticed my car ahs been getting louder and louder, and im starting to wonder if i will need a new muffler soon, its also doing this weird putputput sound out the back. im considering getting a custom exhaust. There is an exhaust shop not to far in Manchester Lous Custom Exhaust. I have heard a lot of good things about them. Im just wondering, has anyone felt a gain in anything from a custom exhaust? or should i just get a normal replacement/ patch.

The stock exhaust system is restrictive, it goes down to 1 3/4" in places. The stock cat is 2" so If you had them redo it with 2" pipe and a high flow muffler it would be a nice improvement. I put 2 1/4" on my wagon (Wanted 2" but got a great deal on 2 1/4") and noticed a gain. Then I put on my 50MM throttle body and wow, now the engine is truly uncorked and it really moves.

+1 I took the small parts outta my GT exhaust and I note a good difference!!! I already have a big TB though stock, yes I'm rubbing it in Matt lol. but it is a GT afterall! /me pets his good GT. now she looks like this....

sorry that's off topic untill you see my 2.5 inch otto tips protruding out of the back bumper otto racing mufflers are a nice deep tone and very free flowing, quietish it's a cross between glasspacks, like fart cans, and a quiet performance muffler! you can find one for like 50 online shipped

You lose low end power with a larger exhaust, not something you can afford in an escort unless you compliment it with the right intake combo.

I'm waiting for my Dynomax Super Turbo Universal 17742. It is a 2" in/out and supposed to be reasonably quiet.

correct if you go over 2.25 inch exhaust you will LOSE power, I am going to do a 2 inch on my EGT when I get the money to buy some pipe and mandrel bent elbows, fab up my own exhaust, booyeah! right now I have no resonator and a high flow cat and kia BP header and that otto racing muffler, overall I love it there isn't much "stock" about my exhaust except some pipe, the kia header I modded to be a 2.5 inch down pipe that goes into my 2.25 inch flex pipe that goes into the stock 2 inch pipe so it's very free flowing compared to stock, and you feel it.

here's a better look at the otto racing muffler, subtle but wind the engine up and it stings ya! I love it!!!! it's quiet enough to keep everyone happy in the morning when I take off, but loud enough when I step in it to make me happy

I love it. and it's different and NOT RICE, no high pitched drone to it it does rasp some but it's a deep rasp. yeah I'ma get going to the yard and I'll have my buddy get a driving inside vid. then I'll do an outside exhaust clip to rev tap once.

how spendy was it? i have heard that, replacing the resonator with a glass pack, and then straight pipe in place of the muffler sounds good on the 1.8 BPs

I'd imagine its be really loud. you should check to see if theres noise restirctions

that's all it is, small 2.25 cherry bomb turbo muffler in place of resonator and pipe it out the side with a chrome tip so it looks good still doesn't take long when you have a cut off wheel and welder! and like getting burned by flying puddles of red hot metal!

if you are lowered or wanna lower this prolly is a BAD idea lol I have noticed NO scraping and I have a nasty driveway to exit.

yeah that side setup is very quiet in normal driving nice low rumble at idle and cruising, step in it and it isn't really THAT loud

that's with the side exit exhaust, roll down the passenger window and it sounds sweet though! we'll see if it's smog legal in 3 years when I have to smog test it, I smogged mine on the perfect day that allowed me to have the 2 year space and an additional year lol.

I'm sure it'll be fine it's not letting fumes inside the car which is sweet lol.

how long ago did u do that? i had the same setup on my honda back in 06 with just the stock pipe and 3A Racing tip. i liked it but i ended up loosing the tip while goin over the tracks on 72nd twards lakewood with my stock springs and my fat friend in the car. lol

I just did that last saturday so a week ago.

it sounds amazing, has more high end power from less exhaust piping to push exhaust through, and no one complains about it sounding loud/bad I've actually gotten many compliments on it because it looks nice, sounds good, and isn't too loud.

yeah my car is stock ride height so I don't anticipate any issues with the scrapeage at all.

OH I know those tracks, on 72nd right by south tacoma way? those are semi fun, the best are on 64th and McKinley ave in tacoma! go 35 over em you get air and it's real gentle on the car, kinda puts you up a little and the road dips down so you just glide through the air to a nice landing.

yeah i went through emissions with my exshaust like that in the crx and was suprised that it passed. i liked the way it sounded. it had sortof a WOOOAAAA woooaaaa cuz of the tip. makes me wounder if the wagon will have that sound cuz i want it loud.

do u remember way way back in the day when 66th had that HUGE hump in the road behind mount tahoma? back when my dad used to have his camaro, he was smashin down through there and got so much air he bottomed out on landing. lol. i was 8 then. fun as hell tho.

so your side exit passed emissions they didn't have a problem with it?! mine pipes OUT away from the passenger compartment so it should be legal.

it sounds amazing, I'ma actually change it so it's a driver side exit instead of passenger side, I wanna roll my window down and hear it!!!!!! and my car isn't LOUD LOUD it's nice low and throaty sounding, when you STEP in it it's not even that loud.

side exit exhaust with the muffler right after the cat is an amazing setup on a BP motor, your wagon, take the resonator out, and just run a cherry bomb turbo muffler with side exit, that'd sound beastly! or just leave resonator in and side exit with a quieting tip!
