I tried this, but with unsatisfied results. The HVAC face was a little more blue, but it was more dark and hard to read than anything. I left it alone because it is still better than the green.

you can actually remove the backings and there able to sand but UBER carefully im gonna attempt it again. i tried it on my lx and it was a super fail. i messed up sanding the letters then eventually sanded the black off between the letters:( so i had to throw it out

not everything is that simple. the paint used MUST be transparent and a rattle can is WAY to much , this is why i use a very fine air brush an gradually build up the color , i dont even have to mask anything if im doing multiple colors

im interested.. i am in brampton and trying to find glow/reverse glow for 3rd gen spi se model, all i find in ebay is zx2 and mph with tech (i need without rpm).

if u still do them, or have something i can look at, that will be great.. next week I will be replacing audio system and front speakers, and would be a good time to replace the old boring gauge too..

on ebay i came across two general types.

    1. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/l3racing/RIG-269.jpg (exact match for my 3rd gen SPI without rpm)

    and

    2. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36 ... 0BLUE1.jpg (not a match, but for referencing styling/colors)

#2 only reason i like is because the speeds like 60,80,100,120 (km/hr) are interchanging blues/reds and its visually appealing ..

(both styles come with overlays, switch, wires, and hooking up instructions) but i cant find one for WITHOUT rpm, IN km's in outer dial

(mods: im not sure about posting links or outside pics, let me know if its against board policy)

    Re: *G.I* Modified stock gauges

this style will work perfect ...

let me rephrase, this will work PERFECT!

lets exchange info.. i've already met dave and good for the word on money.. let me know if this will be a standalone inverter and key on off switch or i will need to yank out cluster and replace 194 bulbs? (i have 10 white and 10 blue led's on order)

    (can't remember for what project)

that is a 3rd gen speedo in the pic , its just a simple re coloring process , no wiring , no inverters. the cluster does need to be removed an disassembled for this process though.

i also can make the LED retrofit to brighten up the gauges alot more.
( if you can get the LED 194's its easier )

if more people are interested i'll pick up some cores and have some ready to go.

ok since im the NEW kid, whats retro and whats set?

set i am guessing u replace all lights from the back and retro would be putting up a "face" with a 12v inverter and on/off switch?

    not quite

The retrofit LED's i have done are modified 194 caps ( the black piece the bulb sits in ) they turn on , off like normal.
depending where you get the 194 peanut LED's , my retro fit set is less $$
