Ok, I am new to having an Escort. It is a '91 GT, auto. For some reason the fuel guage is not working, it is on full, and there is very little gas in it. What could cause this, and how can I fix it? Second, when I got the car, the cooling fan has been rigged with a wire, to run whenever the car is running, constant. Is there a sensor, or something that I can check and or replace to fix this? Like I said before, I'm not new to fixing and tuning cars, (I have three Storms that are in various stages of tuning), but I am new to Escorts, lol. I plan on tuning it to the max, and making it look good at the same time. Thanks again!!!!

Sounds alot like the float on the tank is rusted and sticking. As for the fan staying on the whole time. That sounds like the temp fan switch went out. And im almost sure that switch is either right on or near the thermostat housing.

The cooling fan has it's own separate cooling temperature sensor and at least one relay. Sounds like the person who owned the car before you couldn't figure out that relatively simple circuit. If you don't want to spend big bucks on the printed Helm manual, try getting one of the CD-ROM versions that seel for cheap off eBay. You'll need it. The factory service manuals are the best.

I think going from front to back on the GT's and older LX's the 3 cooling temperature sensors are:

1. Computer
2. Dash gauge
3. Cooling fan

Thay are on a pipe between the thermostat and the heater core, below the IAC.

buddy, i think ur talkin about 1.9...but he's got a 1.8...


Ok, chances are its just ur thermotemp switch....

Its on the water neck just below the distributor. You'll see one side has a primary radiator hose going into it, and on the other side is a sensor.

They are pretty expensive (mine cost me 45 bucks)..

Now as to how they have your fan rigged up, u'll have to figure out how to undo that damage.

As for your fuel pump sender. Unclip the back seat and take a look at the fuel pump urself. JUst kinda bump it when the car is on and see if it starts working again
