I have a 95 Escort Hatchback that we acquired used with no paperwork. The fuel door is very hard to open by hand. It has a pin that appears to be triggered electrically or manually to pop the door open. I have looked all over for a release button and haven´t found anything. Am I forcing the door by opening it manually? Does anyone know how this is supposed to work or where there might be a button? Thanks for any help.

as far as I know, this little pin isn´t connected to anything- it´s just spring loaded. Thusly, you could probably slap some lith grease on it and stroke it a few times to get the travel somewhat smooth. this may fix your problem.

congrats on the buy!

dunno if they changed it but down on the floor, on the left side of the drivers seat there´s two latch releases: one for the trunk and one for the gas door. it SHOULD be there. if you found it and it doesn´t work, then I´m in the same boat...just cut up a coat hanger and pry it open all the time like I do.

My 93 its down on the floor just to the right of the driver seat. One for fuel one for Hatch...although mine was always known for getting stuck. I had to drive across the street from from the gas station once and had a Ford Tech fix it...you know needed gas and all.

LOL The OTHER right side haha I figured you were probably looking at the seat instead of sitting in it in your mind...I do that too. But more often than not, we say that to my sister who is directionally, common, and any other-sense impaired
