Finally found a 99 wagon I can get for $200
I wanna do a Zetec swap but I may just fix the spi motor and make 5-800 depending on how much is damaged vs just getting a good one from the wrecking yard. I was at the yard the other day and one was tagged running/drove in. So for the 300 for the engine it may be a quick profit. If I do the Zetec swap I’ve been wanting to do for the last couple years I would most likely wanna do a manual trans one.

Well we had to wait a couple hours for the tow truck . But she is home now.
The seller told me the engine blew 30,000 miles ago and was supposedly rebuilt. I checked the plugs for valve seat damage and they looked great. Also checked the oil for blown head gasket , oil looked great. I’m thinking it may just be as simple as the timing belt. Tomorrow I’ll get a battery and do compression test if the timing belt ends up in place.

It was all intact that’s probably why they didn’t know what to do. As soon as I took the balancer off and get the belt out you could clearly see the damage to the belt . As well as belt material at the bottom .

Got all the parts I needed at the wrecking yard today. 3 tires ,2 rims to match the other aluminum. Grill light support since old one was cracked. Timing belt with tensioner, door lock mechanism (door wouldn’t open from handle) does now :)
180 for everything
Then I bought a new battery for 109
So 500 bucks total with buying the car.

I would like to keep her but you gotta set the emotional attachment aside. I do really want a wagon to keep for myself but I would prefer another color. So this one makes sense to make a quick profit. I’ll let you know when I sell her.

Got the inside , carpets and seats steam cleaned today. Man, it’s looking nice and I’m getting sad to not wanna sell. I sure hope this car makes someone really happy. I’ll post pictures once the sun comes out. It’s been raining here and is supposed to rain a couple more days.

Thanks for saving one!
The timing belt should have lasted more than 30,000 miles. I would have been concerned something had seized, causing the timing belt to strip out those teeth.
I'm glad you got it fixed up. That heater core replacement is a real chore.

It didn’t appear to be that way , might of just been super super old belt? The water pump turned nicely and the timing tensioner seemed to be ok. So who really knows? Especially with buying it and not a bunch of info available on the car other than it just quit running.
I still have hopes of finding a manual wagon. Hopefully I can find a clean one with damaged engine for cheap.

Yeah the heater core is a bit of a pain. I have done one before on a 2000 escort. I got her done in about 4 hours not feeling the best. Later that night I got some weird stomach bug. I’m doing good now and the car runs and drives great with a amazing heater.

God I’ve been so sick with this stomach flu . I thought it might of been food poisoning but it’s been 3 days and still living in the restroom. I was supposed to go to the wrecking yard and get a headlight due to the mount being broken on one side and I was gonna try to get some good brake rotors. We are going out of town tomorrow till Thursday the 2nd so everything is gonna have to wait till I get back. I was thinking about registering the car and driving it till I find my buyer. I have 3 people interested but I told them to look at the car once I finish it. So if they fall through I’ll register it , driving advertising with a for sale sign.

We’re coming home tonight. 500 mile trip till we get back. Can’t wait to finish my little project.
I’m also gonna build a new zx2 motor for my neighbors zx2 we’re getting a donor car for 250 so his car won’t be down a few weeks. It’s more expensive that way but he needs his car .

Finally got around to the last thing to complete the wagon so I can sell it. The head light mounting plastic molding was broken and the lights were held in with zip ties. Got one from the yard in perfect condition and got her back to her old glory
