I was thinking of picking up a ford focus....but I was considering going for the SVT model....

i know the standard focus is very reliable like our escorts/tracers, but are there any common problems with the svt model?

check on focaljet.com good moard.

Svt comes 170hp, 6 speed manual. 4 wheel disc brakes. Some models have a bbs style wheel. (looks liek the best stock wheel). BUt the svt is still considered by some a great handling car. Not alot fo power. but still handles great.

The first year or two of the Focus they did have reliability problems, but that was long ago. That's also why they stopped making them in Mexico and started making them in the Wayne, MI factory where they had ben making Escorts for decades.

My escort was assembled in mexico... :(

I was considering getting an svt focus, probably doesn't have any more problems than any other car. But you are better off asking on a focus specific forum.

The problem I have seen with the SVT, is the bloated price. If you can get a SVT for a fair price then go for it. But I dont think the SVT is that much better then the SVT. 1/4 mile times are'nt that much better for how much more they cost.

There is a red SVT Focus with 81K on it for $5000 near where I live. My dad was thinking about getting it but then he realized that it used premium gas and he won't ever be able to get the mileage out of it that he does out of his zx2.

Top of my head, the only real problems I can think of is the VCT gasket or whatever leaking oil, this coolant o-ring leaking coolant, and the factory tune. The first 2 are easy fixes, and there's recalls for the factory tune, the dealership can check your VIN and tell you if they did the updated reflash or not.

Or you can just get an SCT X-Cal3 and awaken that beast. You'd probably shit yourself from how much better the SCT makes the car.

If anything, try to get one with the EAP package, it's got black leather recaro interior, HID headlamps, and 17" multi-spoke alloys.

Yes I know the SVT had more power and a 6 speed and what not. But a Zx3 can be mod'ed to match a SVT for less then the cost difference of buying a SVT.
You could buy a Zx3, turbo it and make way more power and have money left over to burn.

Locally there is an SVT Focus with 81K on it for $5000. I doubt you could buy a ZX3 and make it just as fast for that price. Plus, you still would not have a real SVT.

I could buy a Zx3 for $3500, turbo it for under $1000 and make 100 more whp/wtq then a stock SVT.
