I asked a question about the specs in the engine tuning forum and then asked about the swap but I thought it would be more proper to ask the question about the swap under the engine swap forum

he may not but this question has been asked a few times through out the escort forums. i know i answered it here in the last few months. but i will tell you and all agian. having owned 2 gen1's and now a gen2gt i can tell you the major part is the wiring. the mounts are not correct at all but that is easy to get fabbed up. the wiring is going to be a huge issue. all the gen2 stuff is ford/mazda. where the gen1 is all ford. so unless you feel like cross-hatching/matching wires its not worth it.

id like to see this swap take place. If it were me i wouldnt do it because i can make as much power in the 1.9 SEFI (in fact i did).

in all reality, if you wanted to keep Ford engines in there, id swap in a 2.0 SPI. broader torque curve, same hp, more potential, and the SAME 1st gen turbo parts fit it.

How much did most of you pay for your spi engines or any other engines to swap into the lx, ive seen tons of prices on the gtx but never any of the stock engines like the spi
$275 with 30k and 40k complete motor. My last SPI head was $30.

now your getting the drift. the spi is a 99% direct swap. the HO is no where near a easy feet. both have the same hp but the spi does it with a restrictive exhaust manifold and a smaller throttle body then the HO. of which both parts swap to the spi if you want to swap them. bringing your hp up 10 points.

my buddy hs 3 SPIs. the first he paid $300 for with a tranny.

the second one was given to him, and the third has 17k miles on it and he got it for $150 from a parts yard.

like eric said, swap the SPI, toss on the 1.9HO throttle body (fab up a linkage bracket for it), install the HO header, and BAM! instant 120hp.
