Hey everyone. Looking for some help. I'm getting ready to build a 95 escort gt. I heard there's two different manual trannys for the 91-96 escort gt trying to find out the final drive ratios in third gear for both of them. I need to know which one is higher. If you can help me out. Thanks

what do you mean by final drive in third? Final drive (ring and pinion) ratio is 4.105, 3rd gear ratio is 1.233.

Also, when you say you are looking for a higher final drive, do you mean numerically higher? (Like a 4.38 final drive instead of our current 4.105?) If you do, you might be able to build a transmission with the right gearing by using parts from different cars. I know that some 2nd generation ford probe gt's with the 2.5l v6 came with a g series transmission (same as an escort gt) and have a 4.38 final drive. But their transmissions have a different bellhousing pattern, so you would have to take it apart, and swap the differential and ring and pinion into your escort's transmission. Also, their differentials are 28 spline instead of our 26 spline. So our axles won't work. You will have to source a set of bp powered kia sephia axles to use, as they are 28 spline and are the correct length. Also, I've never done this before, and I'm just going off of what others have said, so I can't say for certain everything is correct.

Well at. our track were only turning five grand in third I was trying to see how I could get our rpms up. We run a track tire so can't really do much there and our rules are stock make and model so its hard to do stuff

And the tire diameter we run is no smaller then 70 inches. Trying to see what we would tach with stock trans

You mean circumference? 70" diameter would be like monster truck size. lol. But yeah, if circumference is 70", diameter is only 22.28. You can't go to any bigger tires and run 2nd gear? I have a computer program that calculates gearing, rpm, and tire size. If you are running third gear, running a 22.28 diameter (70 circumference) tire, and 5000 rpm, you would be running 65 mph at 5000 rpm. If you could go to a tire with a diameter of about 24" (75 circumference, you could run second gear and run 66 mph at 7000 rpm. Rev limiter is around 7000-7200 rpm)

If you can't run a bigger tire, what you could do is buy a transmission for a 1997-up escort 2.0 spi sohc car, and swap the differential and ring & pinion assembly into your current transmission, and run 2nd gear. It has a 3.85 final drive, compared to your stock 4.105. According to my gearing program, you'd be able to run about 66 mph in second gear with your current tires. (7000 rpm) That would put you right at the rev limiter at the end of the straight. The spi transmission has the same spline count on the axles as the escort gt, so you'd be able to run your stock axles with the spi differential and ring & pinion.

As for your stock rules, do they only say stock for make and model? Because if they don't say anything about the year, you can run parts from different years, and use that to your advantage.
