My dad is selling a Ford 1.8L I4 DOHC 16v engine (BP) that he purchased in the 90's. He is looking to sell it but we are not sure the value. I think the engine was for a Ford Escort GT 1991-1996. The valve cover has Ford DOHC 16-VALVE and the castings have BP on it. It looks like it could be a version of the Mazda BP engine, or possibly the Zetech (Zeta family). It has never been installed into a car and has never ran, its straight from Ford with many accessories mounted (i.e. exhaust manifold, alternator, flywheel ect..). If any one has any idea the value or knows someone who would be interested in purchasing it please contact me.

Without receipts, $500 max? Even though it's clean. You can get a running gt for $500-1000 no problem.

Honestly, if you know it's really low mileage/perfect engine etc, buy a gt and have a fresh motor! Because gt parts are cheap to find, and most dohc buyers are trying to swap out a sohc motor, and need the wiring harness and trans etc.

According to OP this is a brand new motor though. Technically it should be $1500-$2000 but sadly nobody that owns one of these cars is going to be willing or able spend that much on it.

Doesn't matter since it's been sitting for ~25 years. It's NOS. Even if there was a high demand for such a motor, it's a big ol' question mark. At the very least, it'd need rebuilt just to replace all those dry rotted seals.

    It looks pretty though.

Seals don't dry rot. They become less pliable and crack with heat exposure but that can't happen if the engine hasn't been run.

There are many different types of rubber and not all deteriorate like that. Some seals are even made of or coated with teflon.

This is not a forsale section, if he goes to sell this engine he will need to place it in the proper section to do such. please keep a lookout there. Thread closed.
