Well incase you haven´t read my Zetec into 1st gen post, I just bought a Zetec and a ZX2 tranny to put into my 89 GT. I was wondering if anybody had any 1/4 mile times, for their ZX2. Also wondering how the acceleration is on those cars. I imagine it is pretty good since the ZX2 tranny suposedly has 4.10:1 gears in it. But i want 1st hand accounts.

Well I hope you went with a stick and not an automatic. I have a 2002 zx2 with an automatic and it is a a dog. I don´t even want to waste the money running it down the strip in stock form. The gearing is wrong and torque converter stalls to low for good performance. If you put in a stick, you should be running pretty good.

Thats the truth James. That´s why I´m so stoked about this swap. The 1st gen has a good 200 pound or more advantage over the ZX2, so I´m hoping low 16, high 15 sec runs. I have friends with stock 5.0 Mustangs who hit mid 15´s. I am thinking about taking the mounting flange off of the pathetic looking Zetec exhaust manifold and swapping it onto my 1.9 header. I figure with a full lengthe header and the exhaust set up I have now that should be worth quite a few more HP´s. One way or the other it will be way better than the 10 sec 0-60 times my old engine was tossing up. Man I can´t wait for my tranny to get here so I can start fitting everything into place.

well your old engine must have had some serious issues with it´s compression or intake or exhaust or something, because 1st gen GTs SHOULD be doing times to 60 of 8.9 seconds. But with age comes a price. plus your tranny was probably gettin old too. taking a beating since 1989 and all.

I have a 2000 Zx2 with a manual and the suckers quick. I´m very happy with it... I´ve really surprised a lot of people by it. It´s not just an Escort... it´s a Zx2.

I hope you didnt buy an MTX-75 from a ZX2... we don´t use those... we use the European-designed Type-BC tranny. The MTX-75 is in the ZX3, Cougar, and Contour (incl. SVT). There are a few differences. The BC tranny uses a rod shifter ,and the MTX-75 is a cable shifter.
