Why in the world would Ford go and discontinue a fine performing car like the Escort ; tell us the Focus is better and then turn around and sell them to little old ladies who can`t drive faster than 15 mph ? I was driving home from work tonight , road conditions were fair , not good but fair , when I pulled up behind a fairly new Focus hatchback going 15 .I followed along for a while hoping they would pick up the pace but no go. When I almost tailended him after they suddenly put on the brakes ; I decided I`d had enough and passed him in a no passing zone at 30 mph with no problems. MY Escort held the road in a death grip , she was so stable . My respect for our cars is growing daily . I think Ford needs to dump the Focus and bring back the Escort. It is an all round better platform for safty and performance. I`ve always liked a bigger car but I may never go back after this lttle beauty . Thanks for listening . Drive carefully when your having fun.

:-W Couldn´t agree more - in the UK first we had the Morris Minor "Moggy" then the mini - then came the Escort. It was the most popular car in the country for years, especially for rallying (the E Series was the most stolen car for several years, which must mean something). The XR3i was so popular with the lads, insurance companies priced them out of that particular market!! The Focus was supposed to replace the Escort in popularity here but I can´t see that happening.

Whilst North Americans were driving around in winged gas guzzlers, we Brits thought our small cars were the best thing since sliced bread and now, I´m glad to say, it would seem you agree!

I´d love to see the Focus replaced with something derived from the Mazda MP3 platform with the turbo. Wouldn´t be an Escort because Ford will never revive the name, but I don´t see the Focus as a worthy replacement.

My Kumho 716´s are ratede excellent on the snow, and they sure are. We got dumped on a bout 3-4", not enough to close the roads, but enough for some fun drama. The Escort definately handles well in snow/ice. handbrake steering is fun.

eek... I hope your not suggesting a focus is better than a winged gas guzzler? I attended the barret-jackson car aution this weekend. what a blast. So much old rare cars you get burned out! I saw so many Shelby GT350s and 500s I couldn´t beleive it. Including a nice 1200 horse power factory built mustang from the 60s. a 700 stroker viper from hennesy. I few early 50s mercs. Lots of Rods! a nice looking 55 chevy blown with NOS...and cold AC hehe... oh yeah a cherry 1959 caddy with huge wings! :)

:-( Certainly not, but you must realize that we in the UK thought of USA cars as HUGE - ours were bowler hats on wheels!!!

The Escort, like the minis of the 60s, will remain a one-off piece of history (although they´ve revived the min´ - never the same though). I believe the Focus will disappear in a relatively short space of time. The Mondeo appears to be more popular here. By the way, our Escorts are REAL Fords, engines and all! No Japanese bits on mine (that I know of).
