So one thing I discovered about my Tracer is the drivers side sunvisor flops when moved to the window to block out sun. A little annoying, is it simple as tightening the screws?

good question. I think when that joint wears out it's time to replace them.

They still work in the down position. Otherwise off to the junkyard or Rockauto maybe?

I have a driver's side sunvisor that works fine when pivoted down over the windshield, but flops down about 30 degrees when moved to cover the door window. Its plastic mount is cracked. With the sunvisors on my other Escorts, they are in varying degrees of looking ratty and crumpled. They become more important on sunny days and longer driving times.
I may need to visit a pick-n-pull yard to examine what other cars have that might fit my cars.

I would test a 3rd gen one on your 2nd gen. They would obviously be newer, and hopefully a direct fit.

I have only eye-balled it and haven't laid a tape measure on anything or examined the mechanisms (I'm positive the bolt pattern and mounting plate is different, but I may be able to cobble something together), but the visors in my S10 and our Escorts are roughly the same length and I think would physically fit the space in an Escort.

The up-market S10 visors have pull out extensions and flip down extra visors so you can have a side AND front visor at the same time if you want it and the pull out covers the entire window in an S10 (so, probably like 2/3 in an Escort coupe... which is fantastic on those mornings when the sun is blinding you from the passenger side of the car). They're also of a much more useful overall size than the absolutely puny visors in 2Gs and have nice vanity mirrors and all of that.

You'll most commonly find the "good" S10 visors in '98+ Blazers, but only if they are higher optioned. Sometimes they're hard to find, but the good news is that they're available in a wide variety of colors, with gray being far and away the most common.

It's been on my list for a long time now to make a set of them work in my Escort, but you won't hurt my feelings any if you beat me to the punch. ;)

My Dad took a look at it, and glued the joint. Should be ok now.

it seems to me , aside from the hinges, most escorts have peeling upholstery on the mirror flaps and could go for reupholstering. I'm not sure that I wouldn't go for a full custom visor, since they don't seem to make replacements for our cars.

I have thought, if I were bulletproofing the hinge, and fabbing a whole new wisor, I would use new reproduction gm mid-late 60's style visor hinges. They are usually held on with three or four screws, and are nearly flush...... And they are super available. I really like my lighted vanities too, so I would be hitting the hotrod part sites for sure. Both of my escorts have a good driver side Vanity flaps, but I have forgotten to glue the passenger side for years. Brb.
