So I took my head off a few months ago when I did my new trans and clutch as some of you already know, and I noticed #2 cylinder didn't come up to TDC with #3, so I posted on her about it and Silverton said sounded like a bent rod, BINGO, you pegged that one good dude here's a video of me taking that piston out and just see for yourself what it looks like.

yeah I'm not a camera man for a reason ha ha, but I do know how to wrench good for a 21 year old DIY guy course helps that I've rebuilt my 1.9 scort 2 times lol.

So I started today 9/12 at noon, at 8 tonight I had the good rod in and everything in the bottom end torqued back in, and got the oil pan back on, not bad started at 12 with nothing done I just had started, so now tomorrow after church I'ma toss the head back on hook everything up and see what she purrs like with all the cylinders hitting good.

here's what it ran like before with the bent rod, I'm sure that's what caused it to run this bad it just got worse because the day before I had been rough on it and started it the next morning and it ran like this....

I'm sure that's what it was there's no cracks in the cylinder head all looks good.

ok it's almost done, head is on, torqued, intake hooked back up, timing belt and guard and crank pulley all on, lets see just gotta hook up the misc stuff now, not much left to do, I should have it going in a few hours and be driving it. 2 day surgery W00T......

man I'm glad the 1.8 is a strong beast or I would be looking for another engine that rod was pretty bad ha ha, what's insane is I still was getting 30's+ mpg with this badly bent rod. now I can't wait to see what kinda power she's got.

should I go easy on her for a while, I just reused the same rod bearing so it should seat in good, and I just compressed the rings and put them back in as well didn't go new, the cylinder wall still has good honing marks in it so do I need to drive it easy and rebreak it in or what? comments suggestions are welcome! good or bad!

ok lemme have it! ha ha, I'ma take it out tonight and smash the throttle to 50 in 2nd and back out then drive her normal that's how I was told to break it in.

on another note, the car fired right up tonight I got it DONE, sure it left a half a quart of oil on the ground in 5 minutes but that's minor lol. oil pan gasket if you've ever attempted one on a BP you know the pain. taint easy.

tomorrow I'ma pick up the official oil pan gasket kit which is 2 rubber end seals and 2 tubes of silicone and I'll redo it with help this time so the pan doesn't slip and allow the end seals to pop outta place

oh well the car runs better than it did when I got it in late april, course the rod was bent when I first got it so anything is better than when I got it lol

yeah I warmed it up good and kicked the petal to the floor for a half a second and the engine revved faster than the rpm needle could move, so it tapped out at fuel cut and the gauge only showed 5 grand ha ha. I was like "woops didn't wanna take it that high" oh well seems to be running strong! nice smooth range.

thanks! I know I am shocked the car was as fast as it was, I could lay 2 strips of rubber with good tires in it still. and I beat MANY ricers in it, now I can do 1/2 throttle and toast em instead of 3/4ish ha ha!

man I didn't know what I was missing out on! that car is FAST with the cut air box, K&N filter, header, good exhaust on it, man that engine cries for more at 6 grand!

Dennis I took it out and floored it on the freeway, in 2nd, I burned out in 1st just got the clutch out and nailed it and it spun, then chirped hard in 2nd, just driving it like I always do, then backed out and kept flooring it in 2nd and backing out, I call that a break in drive, now I'll take it somewhat easy for a while.

NO LEAKS, even after driving a few miles and coming home, not a drop of oil anywhere! thanks for helping me dude that's what I needed another person to hold it in place! and since you've done it before you had skillz at holding it lol. yeah it's totally good makes me happy.

torque steer is insane too with a semi free flowing exhaust at least. now I gotta limit my throttle to no more than 1/2 cuz now I'ma be in the throttle a lot lol.

Glad I could help out. Much easier to do an oil pan on a fwd 4 cylinder than my supras 6 cylinder, that's for sure!

if that supra was a 6 cylinder FWD it woulda been easy, but you can't fit that in a FWD setup lol.
