For some reason the other day the speedo went out on my 99 2.0L SE, this of course took out my odometer and trip meter as well. Any Ideas where I should start? Its an automatic transmission and I think its cable based not sensor but entirly not sure. Thanks guys


Oh also my check engine light came on at the same time any place I can go to get the code read without being charged?

97+ is sensor operated. Go to autozone or advanced autoparts, they will read your codes for free. I can guarantee the code is going to to be something along the lines of "Vehicle Speed Sensor Failure." I'm surprised you can still drive the car normally. The computer uses the VSS to determine when to shift gears.

I did notice some lag in shift times but I usually dont drive it hard, motor has 123K miles on it

The part is about $60. I would still get the codes read first just to make sure that is the problem.
