So I'm realizing lowering spring options for early first gen escorts are very limited. I've located a new set that says they are for 9/80 - 4/83 ford escort 1.6" drop. I have a 6/83 wagon. I realize there's some extra weight in the back due to being wagon but other than this should I be able to use the springs? Is there a mounting, suspension, or other difference between 4/83 and 6/83 that would not allow them to fit without modification? Any help much appreciated, thanks!

How are the stock springs? If they aren't bad I would first cut them and see if you like the way the car looks lowered. You could also do a photochop to get the same result but unless you are going to be racing the car cutting a coil and a half should do the same thing the springs you mentioned will do. Just make sure you don't use a torch to cut the springs as it will detemper them. A wet rag on both sides of the cut and a cutting wheel will do the job nicely.

Yeah I was actually thinking about cutting the springs as well. I'll have to see what kind of shape they're in because I've needed to replace some struts for awhile so the springs may be taking some additional load. I'll just have to be very exact and hopefully I like it lower because otherwise I'll be buying springs anyway! Thanks for the info

Send me a side pic of your car and I can do a photochop so you can see what it looks like lowered.

No it's an automatic, pretty slugish...oh! ST are the ones I was looking at I think. Are they the ones advertised as 1.6" drop? What size wheels and tires are you running. Mine are 15's I scored at junk yard off 80's Mustang GT

I ended up purchasing the ST springs that advertised approx. 1.6" drop but it went alot lower than that from what I can tell! I cut the inner fender lip but when pushing on back bumper the car bottoms out on the tires before any suspension! I honestly wouldn't mind the height if it was on adjustable coilovers that would prevent this but with the springs it's just bouncy. I did replace rear struts with Gabriel model. Could that be part of the issue? I never know if being a wagon means it should be different setup in the rear than sedans?
