Ok i FINALLY just bought a automatic 2000 ZX2 with 92k on it for 3200 otd after looking for over a year. It has a sunroof and the premium sound and power everything. I think it is the "Performance" package, but im not sure. The car is in great cosmetic shape however the key fob won't unlock the doors. It will lock them, honk the horn, open the trunk, but it will not unlock the doors. The button on the door unlocks the doors so the actuator is good. Where do i begin troubleshooting this? The remote has the following serial on the back:
3b-f87b-15k501-ab
4b-f87b-15k601-BB
fccid: gq43vt11t

The dealer grabbed the key fob out of his drawer and i programmed it myself using the 8-key-cycle method. The fob wouldnt work at all until i did that, it locked and unlocked the doors on the 8th key turn, it didnt honk (if that helps). There's no way i couldve screwed that up right?

Thanks... ps: Also, the radiator is leaking air (and steam i assume) out the cap. i can hear it hissing. Should i get the standard 16lb cap or the one thats 4 bucks more thats supposed to be special. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I would take the fob apart and see if it needs cleaning. If not... then you have a bad fob. I'll sell ya one PM me if you are interested.

Omg i'm an idiot... simplest solution. I took the remote apart and it's aparent it got wet. It is all corroded and one of the transistors looks shorted, in fact, heres a pic lol.

try taking a paper towel, wet it slightly, and clean it(pop the battery out first of course). Then dry it off, and let it sit an hour or two. Pop it back together and try it. I have cleaned worse boards.

FYI, it is perfectly ok to clean a PC board with water if you are careful. Most flux that is used now is water soluble. I've work on PCB's and electronic assemblies for well over 10 years, and am never afraid to clean light corrosion with water.

Lol thank man. You are about as good of a salesman as i am when i sell computers, i always end up helping the people fix their current computers (if its a simple software problem) when i go to drop off the PCs (craigslist). I used some q-tips and rubbing alcohol to clean it up. I don't have the car right now but i'm crossing my fingers. I think i want to buy a flip-out key anyway haha... now to just find one...

Ok, it was just the radiator cap, woot! Also, the remote does unlock the doors if i press really hard. I believe the problem isn't the contacts on the board, it's the conductive stuff on the bottom of the plastic thingy is worn off. Gonna be getting on on eBay tonight i think, unless i find an aftermarket system for cheap. I really want a remote car starter and a two way pager system. Pics:
