Is it possible to old-school these 3rd gen for fault codes? Accessible connector to pin-probe...extract codes via flash or sweeps?

Search wasn't my friend.

sorry anything 96 and newer is OBDII and has to be checked by a scan computer as far as i've heard.
but just to be safe check out this site and see if you can find self test plugs on your car

go to autozone or whatever auto parts store you have nearby, they'll check your codes for free.
