Kind of a newb question but need to know. I'm almost done building my 97 wagon to run on 5psi and next step is I'm going to buy another escort to make ultimate sleeper slowly over next year or so. So question is, who's got the fastest escort? Or thinks is fastest or up there in fastest escorts on here? And If don't mind disclosing what parts were use it would greatly be appreciated. Was planning to go for a 95 and do hybrid 1.9/2.0 but want to know what is truly best set up...

that thing is sick! but not my goal lol. need to street drive it for the real fun lol. Now if could get the info on what he did that i would like. trying to figure best car to build by seeing how the other ones are built

you want a streetable car ? but want gobs of power .... i'd keep it under 300hp if i was you , any escort pushing 250whp on any motor is more than enough power. of course saying you got a 300+ whp escort is cool its not always practical.

i've got a 1.8L BP on 8psi an its a nasty lil machine , traction is the biggest issue you wil face aside from breakin stuff like axles , trannies , diffs .

so take in ALL options but choose your path carfully , i'd focus on how your getthing that power to the ground and keeping it there. check out the stickys above this thread " turbo club " Sohc / Dohc an poke through to see what others are using.

Thank you silex. Helping keep my mind in realism lol. I'm doing my wagon to run on 5 psi with basically Jedda set up of dsm parts but going to run a front mount and hide it best I can. Guess that'll give me an idea of what low boost is like but I know it'll lead to me wanting alot more boost... What kind of numbers you making in hp/ quarter mile? I like the hybrid set up idea but I'm going to get paeco to make forged pistons, rods, and whatever else is suggested so am I better off haveing a 1.9 full motor or a hybrid or a 2.0 full motor? Could have head work done to get compression If it's stronger then the hybrid setup. Got a buddy with a big machine shop that is doing my dsm header and bracket buy def to much work to do the whole camry swap lol.

Goal is high 12s if possible. Buddies wrx is running 13.3 and won't stop talking about it so when I pull up in a lame escort none of the car club knows is being built, I need to teach cocky man a lesson

If your going for all forged internals i would just start with a complete 2.0 SPI and forget doing the 1.9 hybrid And when you start making serious numbers your going to want an LSD.

The only reason to make a 1.9 Hybrid is to have low compression with out having to blow money on pistons and rods.

Since the 1.9 SEFI has one of the chittiest flowing heads ever put into a Escort, it would be wise to go with the 2.0 SPI if you want to stick with a SOHC.

If your goal is 250hp/tq, you can do that with the stock short block.
Your biggest problem will be cluthes that cant hold, tires that cant hold and a diff that dont explode. Pistons and Rods really are not that high on the list of things you need. What you do need is good engine management.

was looking at aem piggyback which can retard timing and bunch other things because heard megasquirt is a pain to wire or not true? And itll be a way to spend my weekend and i have the time so no huge rush. That said, i want to make the motor semi bulletproof so dont have to deal with it blowing up or any problems... That said, im here for advice. lets say i go hybrid with a 2 door gutted (94 or 95 so dont have to deal with CEL) with front mount and one of above fuel managemnt as well as other neccisary mods, best numbers i can look at safly in hp and on track? ill deal with 6psi on my wagon if have to to save money to have block built so i can hit high 12s...

Again, the problem is'nt so much to have the "block built". I think it's safe to say, the stock bottom end can handle the power needed to run high 12's.
The problem your going to run into is getting the right clutch (the 1.9 cluch is 1" smaller in diameter then the G series stuff) getting traction to make a good launch, and making a good launch with out blowing the 1.9 diff.

And even if you do blow the motor... so what 1.9's are a dime a dozzen.

reason dont want to blow motor is i dont want to be "that guy" that built a car he thinks is quick and blows up when races it. Already going to take crap for turboing an escort, now if breaks on the start line at the track itll be even worst. And lets say it hooks up, what could i hope to run with kinda hp you have? Going to buy slicks off a buddy who wrecked his car before ever used them and know ill have to break down and do lsd at some point. Since already have an extra 2.0, would throwing rods and pistons in it it to lower compression be just as good if not better then the hybrid? $200 for junkyard motor plus other little things or strip down 2.0 and throw in pistons/rods to lower compression for not drastic amount from paeco. My biggest trouble here is finding a rust free or mostly rust free 1.9 vehicle thanks to ny salt... My first step is buying another escort so just want to know where to start. Like hybrid because 95 wont need emmisions but like 3rd gen for better luck finding one in good shape
