Hey, thanks for all the help everyone has given me with my questions! I have another problem now. 91 egt, 1.8, electric fan comes on fine when the car is running, when the car is shut off, it will not run. I´ve replaced the temp sending units/ sensors (all 3) twice with no change. all the fuses and relays are good. (replaced those with new ones too) still it won´t come on without the key on even when it is hot enough to work with the key on. Any ideas? (No codes of any kind.) Thanks for any help you can give.

Actually, yeah they can run even without being cranked up. Haven´t you ever noticed in a parking lot (say mall or grocery store), somebody pulls up, parks, and shuts off/goes inside but their fan is still running? Sensor recognizes that the coolant is above the preset level and is keeping the fan on.

My problem is that my fan won´t run unless the A/C is on, but I´m working on that....

Mine doesn´t come on (w/ out the A/C) until 3/4 of the temp gauge is reached.. which is really rare.. even climbing mountains around home. I wouldn´t expect the fan to come on after shutting down the car when it´s only supposed to come on at nearly 200 deg. At least that´s the case on my LX.

Yes 1st Gens will stay on for a while after shutting the car off. Living in the Desert I am well aware of this. That and people alwasy ask me if I left the keys in my car after we get out and they hear it. I really see no point to the fan running since the water in the radiator isn´t pumping to the engine, so it really cant be cooling the engine too much. Not to mention the drain on the battery. Not all cars do this though, so you might want to do some research before you go thinking your car has a problem.
