The water pump went out on my boyfriends car. That has been replaced, however, the fan does not seem to be working properly. Both the relay and sensor were replaced. The fan will come on while the key is on (acc) but it will not come on while the motor is running. I don´t know what to think. Darn
electric fans, mine either works or the belt´s busted

I am not sure what normal is though. I have never had or dealt with electric fans before. While the key is on acc, the comes on intermittantly, like on a few seconds and off a few seconds. This is after the motor has been running and the temp gauge was about halfway. The fan did not come on while the engine was running. I am not sure if it would behave the same manner before the car has warmed up.

Any advice, recommendations, things to think about or look for, would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The best way to test the fan and relays is to open relays up and eather push the contact finger in or pull it. The fan should start on low and high speeds. If it works fine. Then there could be a bad coolant temperature sensor. Test it by scanning error codes. If everything is fine there onle one thing left. It is your programm in ECU. It´s depends on year of the car. My old 92 ECU didn´t test fan on the start up. And fan kicked in only when engine was overheating. I was sick and tired of it. Cuz overheating is bad for engine. So I swapped MAF and ECU from older 94. And now shen I start my engine fan kicks in for a 10 seconds. And then when engine is little bit above the middle fan kicks in. I saw some car´s fan kicks in on 3/4 2/4 4/4 of the gauge scale.
