I was talkin scorts today with my mechanic, and he was telling me his wife has one too. Only hers is a ´99 4 door I think with a 2.0L turbo and 5 speed in it. Said it came as some kind of special edition sport package from Ford, and only 5,000 were made. Said it only came in a custom color too, something like "Wild Blueberry" which he described as a dark blue with purple and silver tones.

I haven´t actually seen the car yet, so can anybody confirm that Ford offered a turbo on the 2.0L engine as some kind of sport package not listed in Ford´s sales literature?

I work at a ford dealer and have never heard off, or seen a 2.0l turbo escort produced by ford. The only similar 2.0l turbo is the one found in the MazdaSpeed protege, but thats like 3-4 years after. I think your tech is yankin´ your pisser. :-]

What an ass. There s a guy at school from Nova Scotia that says he had a 98 4 door escort with a DOHC 2.0 and I am 100% sure that didn´t exist either. Whats with all the lies!?!?!? :-o

Was the 3 gen LX sedan only a single cam? I do know it wasn´t the Zetec in the ZX2 but I don´t know thw # of cams in the LX.

I know there were EXP turbos way back when they had those heavy eyelids. They were going to make an Escort Turbo at the same time but it was cancelled at the last minute. There was even an ad campaign released. I can dig up an ad for it in an old Road&Track. It said "Raise your standard of leaving." Which I thought was pretty clever and it stuck in my head to this day. Ford had several clever ads in that era.

one Ford ad I liked was when they came out with the windstar and the ads showed how it looked like a space shuttle... then the shuttle crashed and people were killed and stuff, and they instantly changed it, lol.

I think with spending the extra cash you could get a 98 Scort sedan with the 2.0 DOHC. I think I´ve heard of a couple dealerships doing it....and its no big challenge, same mounts and all as the SOHC. Basically 4dr Zx2.

The only ZX2 special package I´ve heard of...(raced one at the track actually) Was a ZX2 ´Hot´ Package. Came in like 2 colors and had the 2.0L DOHC and had a factory, Borla 2.5" exhaust, intake, and some timing work and stuff....it only out ran my non-turbo GT by .01 second. Being turbo´d now I would whoop up on one by almost a full second (here in prescott till I can figure out the fuel prob at near sealevel)

a few years ago ford had donated a zx2 to rousch racing to be used as a guinie pig. Rousch was able to squeeze out 230 hp with a super charger and other engine work. I never found out if it was ever released but the package costed around 7 grand if i can remember which isnt bad for a car that is around 13,000 new. As for ford´s "hot" package that blade was talking about it was called the s/r edition (street race). Ford change a couple of things such as a new air intake exhaust and wut not, but one of the nice parts was the disk breaks that they had left out for some reason on the zx2. There were only around 2,000 made or so. Wut they realy need to do is bring some justice to the zx2 and release a zx2 svt.. has a nice ring to it lol

I wouldnt mind getting a mazdaspeed mx-3... sounds nice. I´m tempted to throw a turbo on my GT, but it has 133,000 miles on it. Aem.

Yeah, that reminds me.....he also said his wife´s car came from the factory with a Borla exhaust, but it didn´t have 4 wheel discs. And yeah, it wasn´t some kind of special order, it was just sitting on the local Ford dealer´s lot.

And I do know that Ford really did make some 1st gen turbo GT´s, in addition to the EXP´s. It was a turbo 1.6L of 120HP, available in 84 and 85 only.

there was a Zx2 "hot" as well as "cool" can´t remember the details on them though. I thought it was mostly trim? the S/R is a completly different package. damn good deal too.
