I am re-installing my factory Premium radio into my '98 ZX2 because I am moving my good Blaupunkt head unit to my other car.

I have un-done the factory amp bypass and have the radio in and working, except the front speakers, I suspect because I can not find a place to plug the black wiring harness into the radio. It IS the radio that came with the car. The gray harness plugs right into the radio, but I see no place to plug the black one into. If I recall, doesn't it plug into the gray one? There is no place on the gray one to plug into though.

Does the black harness plug in somewhere else, or into the gray one. Looking online at pictures of the harness, there appears to be a piece of black plastic missing from the top of the gray harness, but that could possibly just be a cover that was removed to be able to plug into the aftermarket harness.

Does anyone know where to plug the black harness into for a factory Premium radio? I have the rear speakers working fine, but nothing up front.

Thanks.

There are 2 plugs that plug into the factory radio, One long thin one (power) and a square black one (speakers). There is supposedly another long thin one in there with a jumper connector plugged into it. That jumper need to be plugged in for all the speakers to work.

Thanks for the reply. Mine has a gray "long" plug and a black "long" one also. There is a square one, but it's for the 6-disc changer that used to be in the car.

I am thinking the two plugs go into each other somehow, but I also think it may be missing a piece that connects the two.

If I have to, I'll use an aftermarket harness on the black one and try to connect the wires into the other one to make it work...unless there is a place where the long black one goes that I am just missing.

I know the previous model Escorts and maybe the base, non-Premium radios had a long and a square plug, but this one has two long ones.

The non-Premium Ford radios for as long as I can remember had two almost identical long plugs, one gray (power) one black (speakers). The non-Premium ZX2 radio is like this.

The premium system has the long gray one and a black square black one that powers the speakers and connects to the changer. The long black connector has a jumper plugged into it, if your missing that jumper then the front speakers won't work. There was a picture of it on here but I can't find it now.

I'm going to be installing an aftermarket cd player soon in place of my premium system. I'll take pics of my cables. Also if need be you can have whatever jumper thingy you need. I'm eBaying the cd player anyway.
THANKS! I'll definitely take the part I'm missing, I'll Paypal you enough to cover postage and a little extra if you want. I don't want to buy a whole new harness, but I haven't tried junkyard diving yet. :)

It will be the part that allows the black one to plug into the grey one, or however it goes. I know for a fact you won't need that part for the aftermarket unit because I've had two CD players installed into this car since I've had it, but somehow it got lost or I suspect, Circuit City chucked it when I actually let them install the Alpine I bought from them. It was stolen and I installed a Blaupunkt myself after that, but I never saw that part or I would have saved it.

My other car needed a new stereo, so the factory is going back into the ZX2.

That's what I thought. I have the gray plugged into the radio, the changer plug I knew about but I thought something was missing that allowed the black one to plug in. Thanks for confirming it for me.

If the picture was clearer you could probably make your own out of a standard Ford harness adapter.

Hmm, I just stripped down my zx2 that had that premium factory system. I remember the "loopy thing" and scratching my head a bit. Seeing as that the car went from complete to bare shell cut in 4 pickup truck bed sized pieces in a matter of 20 hours it may be among the mess of stuff I kept. I'll check this weekend, if I still have it, its yours. I have no use for it. I also have the cd changer for sure, if you'd want to put one back in we could work something out. like I said, I have no use for either, just too much of a pack rat to get rid of stuff like that. good luck otherwise.

Thanks for the offer. I went through two changers already, so no thanks on that. They seem to be a pain. I mainly listen to sports or talk radio anyways when I'm diving that car to work, so I won't even miss the CD player going into my other car (wife drives it).

I still haven't torn into it yet. Today my kit should've arrived but it was veteran's day. I will let you know as soon as i get the part out.

Brand-New Ford AM-FM CD

Speaking of Escort stereo's, I have one that is brand-new, in the box. Have no idea what year(s) it fits. It is an AM/FM CD deck, factory Ford unit, part #F4BZ-18D806-A. There is also a date of 12-08-93 printed on the box. Anyone have a way to look this up & see what years & what Escort vehicles(and others) it fits? Thanx

No rush.

Do you have a dash kit for your new stereo, because I have a barely-used, like new Metra kit with harnesses that I no longer need.

I ordered one off eBay but it's been since the 6th now and i still havent gotten it. The seller was a powerseller too located in florida, so i shouldve gotten it in 3 days max. I'm highly tempted to leave neutral feedback when it does come.
