My car has the original cover but it is really beat up. I decided to take a risk on buying a retractable escort cargo shade in the hopes it would fit. It does not... Hopefully that is helpful for others.

That said, if anyone needs a retractable shade for a '85-'90 escort in blue I have one and willing to sell. NOS so it is in great original condition.

If the problem is with it not retracing and whatnot you can take it apart and reverse the spring and if its anything like a 85-90 cover you can take ir off and tighten it.

The EXP didn’t have a retractable cover. It had this cover that buttoned over the rear area. Sort of simple and crap design really. I will probably end up reconditioning mine somehow despite my dislike for it.

It literally “buttons” onto the panels in the rear and you fold it back when you want in...

Can you take a picture of what it looks like @austin86? I have not seen a retractable one and would really like to know what I am looking for exactly.

I can take a photo of the cover. How ever both are out of my cars. I have the whole interior out of my 88 and the 87 is a parts car.

Looking at the photo you posted, it looks exactly the same as that. The springs go bad over time and or lose tension when removed witch causes them to no longer retract.

I see. Well if you are interested in offloading one of those covers I might be interested. If so, let me know what color and a pic would help. I have the Academy Blue interior on my '83.

Well I have 3, a grey one I'm keeping. A red one out of my 88 and a blue one out of a wagon witch I believe is different the a EXP cover. I'm willing to sell the blue one and the read one.
Try taking yours off and seeing if it just lost tension. If a 83 is anything like a 85+ you would be able to re tightening the spring by unhooking on side of the cover and twisting the end.

    EDIT:
OK I looked at the photos of you car form the eBay add, a 83 and 85+ cargo cover is not the same at all. But I'm sure you could get one made at a interior shop.

@austin86, again, the one in the '83 is NOT retractable. It is a button on cover. Pretty lame cover overall and quite annoying to undo and redo when needing to put things into the trunk. If you see the one in the photos above, it may look like it retracts but it does not. That is why I am curious to see what the ones in the later model EXP look like.

yeah I just looked at the seller photos of you car. Defiantly not the same.
I'll try and get you photos some time this week as I have to dig them out of the parts pile.

Thanks, that would be highly appreciated. I might buy that gray one from you if it fits. If not I still might be interested in the red one, I know some good vinyl repair guy could probably spray and recolor it possibly and I plan on doing that for seats and such anyhow.

Yes sorry my mistake, I meant to say the blue one if it fits being you said it is for a wagon and might not.

Ill try to take a look in storage for the blue this week. If I recall it was longer and wider then my two exp covers witch may turn out for the best, seeing as your 83’s cover isn’t retractible you could take it apart and cut it down to size.
