I must be really missing something, I seen tons zetec swaps into first gens and no one ever touches the suspension. The EXP tans mates to a zx2 zetec , you should not have to touch the suspension or drive train.it's front wheel drive suspension has a ton to do with it because mounting points

How-To: Zetec Swap into a 1st gen Escort
Ok, here is my write-up on how to swap a Zetec engine into a 1st Gen Escort, EXP, or I guess a Tempo, if that’s what you’re into. The way I did this keeps the original transmission, which makes the swap a whole lot easier and cheaper. I used a Zetec from a 98 ZX2, but other Zetecs should...www.feoa.net
If your car is a sport model EXP its 100% the same. EXP luxury models have lighter springs and no rear sway bar. Most of the suspension should match an 88 escort gt
Only real hard part about that swap is the wiring. And it would net him about 20-30HP witch is more then what he would gain from a HO to stock ztec. A stock ztec swap is not worth the time if he has a HO. The HO is 115hp and the ztec is what? 120hp?Does your EXP have the regular 1.9 engine or the HO 1.9?
If it has the plain engine, switching to the HO would provide a fair bit more power and since it was a stock option, could be done with all stock parts.
The Zetec is 130hp in stock form. With a tune and bolt-ons you can easily get 150hp.Only real hard part about that swap is the wiring.
