EXHAUST CAM SWAP?? SCORT GT

ive read a few things on here about an exhaust cam swap. do you swap the exhaust and intake cam, or do you get another exhaust cam from another escort and install it on the intake side?. if soo how do you time the exhaust cam? if someone could give me some details on how to exactly do this thad be fing sweet, as i want my escort to whip every car it races!!!

I have done this on my dirt race car and I noticed a small increase in power. I followed the walk through in the link posted at the bottom of this post. On that page is a template to print off so you can drill your cam gear for correct cam timing but the best way to get the power from this mod is by buying adjustable cam gears. I wasnt able to run adjustable cam gears in my race car so that is why I used the template to drill my gear myself. It was a very easy mod and took all of 3 hours to do. ahhh yess, actually it did and thanx a lot!, if i can get my damn printer to work. it wants to print the typing and not the actual template, i have two spare motors sitting here, one of wich wont be touched until its rebuilt and has the turbo on it, the other i pic away at when my parts in use fail soo im only a fandango away from swappin this cam.....damn printer!!!

Good luck with your swap. Just make sure your timing is DEAD ON when putting it all back together. Mine was off a tooth and ran very rough but sounded very very mean lol. I have it all dead on now and it idles nice and smooth.

cool cool, ya i have mine set at 14 because i read if you like to shift over five grand you get a better mid to high end curve while still having good bottom end, and since most of my racing is illegal street racing :) i only run thru second or third gear soo redlining is a must, i drillled my gear today, i ended up being a little off on the first try, but i have a complete motor ive been snatching parts off soo i checked the gears and they appeared to be the same soo i used the other one (the exhaust), and got it dead on, its a shame the cams were toast on the motor tho, ill have to use the cam from my new head n block i plan to rebuild :( thanx again for all your help, if you have anymore mods you would like to share or stories id be game to hear em. good day

man u are just a guru of inexspensive mods arent you! lol, i actually herad of this but didnt know if it was worth it, and if it was as difficult as it sounded, of course that was back when i first started this escort venture of mine four years ago, now two escorts later, i have a bit more knowledge (thx to guys like you) and dont think it would be too diff, ill hafta start looking for one of these they arent soo easy to find

I found one on ebay for $36 shipped. It isnt that hard to do this mod, I just got messed up on the setup of it with the volt meter and stuff like that. Im by for NO guru lol, I just pass on what I have found on this site. I assume you have a cold air intake so you wont have to mod your stock airbox to fit the RX7 MAF. I have only had an escort since March of this year that I race on a dirt track so everything I know I have found out by asking and ALOT of research. Those are the only 2 mods that I have on my car that would benifit you at all. I dont think you want toe on your right front or camber settings on your right front either lol. I have read about a "cut intake" mod but you have to pay to get info on it so I havent done that at all. As for the RX7 MAF mod being worth it, it does add some power after 6000 RPM and if it is noticable on dirt im sure it would be on the street.

right on, iv e been hearing a lot about this dirt racing, what is it with the gt's and dirt racing, i assume its because they are cheap tough little cars, unfortunately for me thsi makes it hard to find a decent escort around my neck of the woods, i think i might have to get an lx and gt spec it out if i want a decent color with a decent body, the one i have is pink or should i say "sunburst red" which is a glorified way to say pink, and the body/exterior as a whole is in really good shape but i ll hafta get it painted, well thanks again for the information, if i come across anything crazy ill pass it on.

There is a guy that use to dominate the autocross course in his class with his "pink" escort gt. Everyone started calling it pink thunder.

hahah pink thunder eh, ive named mine sweet pink, after well a few things, hey redlined man, i swapped my cam today, could have been a little smoother but in all it runs, actually it idles very well surprisingly smooth, however i feel a loss of power at lower rpm's, seems to lag, is this a high end mod, or could i have my cam gear off a tooth or two, again it idles well and sounds a lot more throaty through the rpms, jus lacking a little power it seems did u experience something similar?
