I have a 93 Escort, its instrument cluster has no Tach and the max mph is 85.
I just bought a 91 Escort GT instrument cluster. (max mph 120+, and it has a tach)
All the plugs in the back fit.
    But, the wirings are different.
Can anyone help me install this instrument cluster into my car?

    please help, thanks

Do you mean the plugs fit but all the warning lights are wrong? I had to test out every wire and relocate them in the plugs. The year might be the reason. It was for me. Once you do get it done, put your original speedo in the new cluster. Remember your redline is not 7000.

or he could just get the guage cluster for the lx that has te tach in it, and just wire the tach up

Yes, it is the easiest way, and the redline would be right, but he was talking about the GT cluster that he already has. Also, having the right year might eliminate the pin out discrepancy. You might not even have to do any wiring to make the tach work. It might already be in the plugs.

    waaa.. that sucks.. thanks guys
I thought new speedometer already has the gears set to read more than what I have. But madbrad said, I have to put the original speedo back.

And Whig-it said I have to wire the tach up, so I guess my car is not pre tach ready.

oh well .. maybe if I'll find that LX cluster..

Easiest thing to do (albeit the most ghetto) would've been to get a dash-mounted tach. Not a huge one like some people have, like maybe a 2-3 inch, and mount it near the pillar so it doesn't attract too much attention... But it sounds like you already got the cluster and everything... So I guess it's a moot point.

    Like mine.....

It has a tach that redlines at the correct RPM for the 1.9 as well.

Just find an LX with the sport appearance package. By the way, you'll need guages in MPH unlike my Km/h

Never done the swap before so I don't know what to tell you about that. I would imagine the cluster would be a direct swap (idiot lights and speedo should all be the same). You would just have to find out witch terminal of the EDIS module to plug into to get the tach to work.

    Hope that helps :D

Ok so my 93 car has the cluster with 3 gauges in it. fuel/speed/temp.

    I got a 91 cluster form the J/Y with 4 gauges temp/fuel/speed/RPM.

    Problem #1.
-The dates of production of the clusters I was told is on the sticker on the top of the clusters.
-The cluster out of my 93 says
    FOCF-___AG
    03.25.92_CA
dose this mean my 93 car uses a 92 cluster?
or is the date idenification process I'm using wrong?
-The sticker on the 4 gauge cluster reads.
    FOCF____EH
    11-26-91-CF
-If the date of the car corisponds with the design of the circetry on the back of the cluster, why then dose my 93 have a 92 cluster?

    Problem #2
-The two clusters have diff circetry on the back of them.
-shuld I get an LXsport cluster of the same year? or can I wire in the 92 sport cluster.

The sport cluster I bought redlines at 7, what is the redline for the GT and the redline for the 1.9L?

    Thank you.

whats the sport appearance pakage? is it just when the lx has a spoiler and rims? if so , i dont have a tach and i have the sport appearance. How do you wire for the tach anyway, i want to get a cluster from corksport.

3.25.92 means that tach cluster was assembled on that date. same with the other one. If it was in your 93 it was built in 92 and used in a 93 model year car.
