Hey Guys, My Idea is to fit Mustang calipers and Contour svt rotors to my escort, I was going to put them on my Merkur but putting them on the escort is just too darn exciting. I was wondering if anyone had a front right steering knuckle that I could buy cheap for expirimental purposes, since I will have to cut off the original perches that are cast in to hold the pads. I also plan on milling the back surface on the knuckle flat to make two large bolt holes and a mating surface for an adapter bracket, this adapter bracket will mount the mustang bracket which is what holds the caliper and pads. The calipers are an Aluminum(Wow, type ALUMINUM with one finger and see how many X's are produced!) Dual piston design, both pistons on one side with slider pins, and they fit a 1999 ford mustang, non cobra, same for the brackets, and the rotors are from a contour svt, I think 1999 works as well, they are hubcentric and have the same bolt pattern as an Escort and are just a hair under eleven inches, if the brake swap is successful, they will not fit under any stock first generation wheels. And I know I am getting well ahead of myself but if I can do the front I will tackle the rear, but Mr. T. Bird will have to help me out with that one.

IF they measure out the same you could possibly use the 94-95 Taurus Knuckles. That's how we get them on our pre 93 Tauruses. I was running mine that way till I did the 96+ subframe swap, it then requires different suspension components.

That's a lot of break for a little Escort but it sure would look great behind a nice set of wheels. I have a full set of rotors from a V6 4 wheel disc Contour but fronts are only a little bigger than the stock Escorts. I started and never finished trying to make a set of rear discs for my car use rear Contour discs with rear Turbo-Coupe calipers. Lost access to a friends machine shop so I need to find a new friend. If you can't find a front knuckle in a reasonable amount of time let me know because I'm sure I could pull one but shipping from Canada would be way to much. Sound like a cool project.

The Contour brakes would fit better, especially the rears. I know in the UK 13" full floating rotors can be had by Wilwood....I've thought about eventually getting a set and trying them out. One day..

Did any of the fox bodies come with rear discs? If they did I would probably start off there.

I'm a huge supporter of rear discs; lemme know if you find a good place to start.

The Fox-era Mustangs would probably work, but I don't think they came with rear discs. I could be wrong, and some models might have. Still, I'd go for the Contour setup since they usually abound in junk yards, and it would take little to convert them to fit our cars to my knowledge. Once I stumble on one here and get to dissect it I'll make my judgment.

They make a disk conversion for the rear on the fox bodies. I think it is the same ones on the cobra or cobra R.

There are also conversion kits from the UK that are direct fit for the Escort....the problem is expense.

The mustang SVOs came with rear discs, and i think a '93 cobra came with rears also

For what it's worth my car has been having some wonderful brake noises. The pads are seated properly. They weren't before due to a cocked caliper, so the rotor rusted, and now the new brakes are grinding on the heavy rust.

I looked into new rotors (not turning them, I've always seen them warp inside of a week), and I found a set of ATE slotted rotors on tire rack. Oddly enough, I can get them shipped cheaper than I can go buy a set of Wagner OEMs from the local Advance. I also noticed they stock ceramic pads, so I'll be going that route for the time being, and will report back on how well they work. Tire rack also stocks some OE style Brembo rotors...a little cheaper, but I don't know if they're really any better than Wagner. I could only hope with the name on them. If anyone has tried those, please speak up.

Also replacing the 65k+ mile rear brake shoes with some new ones, as the last I checked they were soon to be needing it.

this would be an awesome idea considering the foxbody mustang has been around for 15 yrs. and because of it anyone and everyone in the aftermarket world has made perfect pieces for this car and if someone would open a gate to the fox all wheel big drilled and slotted disc brakes it would be one heck of a great accomplishment, i would love to call up jegs and order a set of all wheel Brembo disc brakes for a 89mustang, and simply bolt them onto my 87 escort GT. best of luck, if you make it, i will be your 1st customer
