is it possible to put the 2.0 zetec engine from the newer ZX2 model escorts into a 91-96 escort gt? it seems like it could be done, especially if they can fit a 2.5 V6 into the GT...man i would love to do that...
OK here is the scoop our cars manual trannys are the G5M (ZX2) and the M5 (all the rest). I haven´t done any of it yet (because I don´t have a ZX2 to do it on but you should be able to swap all the way up to the 3.0 Probe engine!!! I don´t know if it will fit but all apllications of the Probe engine should switch over to the Escort! I was just studying this and it all looks like a go. You could even swap the 2.2 turbo engine in but I suggest that you guys don´t even play around. I say V-6 power is the way to go. Thereare superchargers for both engines and you can get 240hp with just a supercharger from the 2.5
I just saw a vette motor dropped in this guys old 280Z today....so realistically any motor can be put in any car.
The question, How much time and money is it worth?
I´ve heard of LX guys going to the 2.0 because its simular, but 1.8 to 2.0...not really worth it. Just turbo the 1.8, and you can get up in the 2-300´s of power. (Lots of TLC and tuning...but possible.)
soooo... will the above probe motors mentioned fit on the same trans that the gen2 1.9 sits on? Could be an interesting upgrade in place of swapping to the GT since the junkyards around here have a grand total 1 GT that has already been stripped of all trans/engine/cpu.
Yes you´ll need a new computer, wiring harness...mounts, everything.
Anyone saying that only 2.0 and up is only worth it is crazy.
the Mazda BPD8 in the GT´s is worth modifying instead of laying up the car for months with an engine swap.
If you go turbo with the BPD8...given all the measurements of the engine and using average efficiencies for the turbo and intercooling process....it is possible at 12lbs of boost to put 250 horse out the the 1.8. And the cost is a LOT less then a full on swap.
Whilst I understand and agree with you (the BP 1.8 is a rock solid engine!!!), There are no transmissions/ECU´s to be had from the escorts with said setup where I´m at currently (which would be Spokane WA), and the clutch is about to die on the 1.9 (which runs well, but is quite anemic at 84 horses), and since I have to pull the engine/trans combo to replace the clutch, why not just gut the thing and drop some more power underneath that hood.
I am trying to find out if the protoge` trans from the same era will drop into the Escort with mild to moderate work, but I´ve got no responses on that from the Engines forum. Maybe I just need to repost here, but that´s bad etiquette...
Of course, I just did, didn´t I?
Hmm..yeah if you have to pull everything, that means putting everything back in and why not put something that will make it worth it. And I can see going from the 1.9 to a 2.0 (I think the mounts are the same).
Well, g´luck....at least you know you´re in for hard work either way, so make it fun work.
Is the 1.9 tranny from the 2nd gen the same as the 1.9 tranny from the first gen?? and will either bolt up to a 2.0 Z-tec?? I had the idea of putting one in my 89. Thought it might be interesting. And on the subject of Vette motor into a Z-car, I read in a popular Ford Mag that some guy was making conversion kits to make a Focus Rer wheel drive with a 5.0 under the hood. Whoa momma, could you imigine???
I have a 1.9 and its killin me! I was at a used car lot the other day and good news on the 2.0 swap. The mouts are the same, even the stuff on the fire walls are the same so I say that the 2.0 swap is a go! It should in the same way the 1.9 came out.
I saw a place in canada that will put a probe v6 turbo in a scort for like $2500 or $3000 but I lost the web address and can´t find it for nothin. If anyone knows the name of the company or the web add.please let me know I want a firm price for it cause for almost the same money you can get a 2.2 l turbo but the motor has such close tolerances already it´s not really worth it.He heh a Bic disposable motor.
i know the site youre talking about. it puts in the 2.5 V6 (KL-ZE) motor from the mazda mx-6. the site is www.a-spec.ca. i believe the price was around $4300? and i don´t think that engine was turbocharged either, and it made 200 hp...enough for an escort to dominate most cars on the road.
i´d do it, but i´m not driving from south florida to canada.
I´m sure the motor was a turbo they quoted around 250 hp and the price was canadian(I think)but I will look into this as well.I´m considering buyin a cheap bomber(scort of course) to drive while I am doing this but before I do I want to find the most hp for the buck as well as a reputable shop to do it.
