I am about to do a 2.0 Swap (soon I hope). All I know as of now is that you need the 97 fuel rail and some other things I have written down somewhere...... Now with the secondarie butterflies I heard you can either take out the short screws and put in long ones so they open freely, or you can hook them up to a shift light on an RPM guage to open at certain RPMs. Since the 2nd gens dont have the computer thingy to open them. BUT I want to know about that zetec swap. cause I can get a ZX3 Zetec for the same price, and I want to know if it is worth it........ I know it has more HP but how much modding and other parts are neede? Sorry about the long post.....

Long post.... Ha. I don´t know what you guys at ERDT concider long, but here that isn´t it. I have posted damn near half a page on some of my older posts. I would go with the zetec if it is just as practical as the SPI. If you do the SPI I would concider getting the SPI ECU as well. Reason 1 being proper control of the secondaries, number 2 converting to OBDII. If you go with the Zetec you will be converting to OBDII as well, but I think it is a good idea one way or the other. OBDII is SOOO much easier to diagnose than OBDI.

the Zetecis not as practical to swap into a 2nd gen, pony, lx, OR gt. yo umust replace the ECM, wiring, tranny, engine, axles, all that jazz. if you want to swap an SPI into a 2nd gen pony or lx, the stock trans can stay, the same axles can be used, all that you do is change the various sensors that are OBDII dependant, and use the 1.9 sensors.

no big deal really. you dont HAVE to go to OBDII, its nice, sure, but its alot of extra work that can be done later if you wish. the 2.0 SPI and 1.9 SEFI are the same block, all the 1.9 mods will swap over, for the most part, so its extremely sensible if you are tight on cash and need the power and increased refineness from an engien to go with the SPI, not Zetec.

yeh u can get a good zetec engine on ebay...i´ve noticed a few going for like 300 already pulled. U´ll have to get the cooling piping and all the other engine basics...

ecu, wiring harness, all that stuff so get a zetec engine guide to start and start marking things u´ll need to replace that ur escort wont have already. then start pricing stuff.. junkyards and ebay are the best. in my opinion, 2 months and about 1100 bucks should do it provided u get a junkyard motor and inspect/rebuild it urself if it needs it done.

Also, swapping in the zetec is a great idea. its not much for horsepower stock, but there are soo many kits and parts and performance upgrades for them instead of the old 1.9 in the lx´s. the zetec even has a supercharger bolt on kit for them.

well personally if I were doing the swap for myself I would most likely go with the KL-ZE swap....but since I am doin this for someone else and they are trying to get the most ecenomical swap I will do their request....I can get all the parts I need here, I have a friend who wrecks out Escorts only...he was going to set aside a good 1.9 for this car, but has not gotten one in lately, but has a 2.0 with 1000 miles on it....totaled in the rear...the Engine is costing $300 and he will most likel;y throw in alot of the accessories for the swap...t hat´s the main reason I need the list...so I can get together with him and get it sorted out so I can do the swap all at once

See.. thats why i hate this website and furom. nobody answers the question straight. he asked for a list of parts for the 2.0SPI swap.. not info on the zetec swap. not one person has given all the right stuff. Only reason i am going on like this is because i would like to do it too, its just hard getting people to respond to your questions.

I wasn´t going to respond because I never have and never will swap a 2.0 SPI into an LX to gain a little extra horsepower. One reason being that you can find a Probe GT and get yourself a 2.5L KLZE V6s with 200 hp stock for the same price as a junked 2.0 SPI. Which is why I guess I just don´t understand why you´d wanna swap from an econo box motor to another econo box motor. You´re probably just adding more weight to your car because newer cars tend to have a lot more electronic shit incorporated in and around the engine that you would need. If I were spending all that money to swap I´d want just one thing: noticably more power.
Besides he´s asking about a cost list and analysist of an engine swap most of us haven´t done, thats why he´s not getting a 100% straight up answer on his specific question. So, if I understand this right the reason why you hate this forum is because we´re trying to help him gain the most bang for his buck?

But more power to him. if you want to drop a 2.0 SPI in your car, then I would suggest you start doing A LOT of leg work, and then you could turn around and help all of the rest of these people that want to do the swap. ;-)

more or less right as far as I can see it...here´s the low down on the issue....my parents have a 94 lx, they are not into modding cars so much, they just want the engine replaced so they can drive it and give me the 91 4 dr hatch lx....they do not have alot of extra funds and the swap from 1.9 to 2.o spi whould be the most eceonomical for their use....just to get around town and on trips...I know I can pick up a low mileage 2.0 for about 300 and if there is not a whole mess of things extra needed I can prob get them thrown in...such as the wiring harness and ecu....I´m looking to see what else is needed, from what I have been able to discern the tranny bolts up so no prob there....that would save loads of cash in itself....now later on the 91 will be getting the kl-ze swap for my enjoyment...but for now will be transportation while I´m doing things to the GT....man I ggot too many projects....lol....I also have a 74 bug that I´m rebuilding/customizing for my wife....lol

its not only that, its too many people that dont have the right info trying to sound like this big car god try to give you the answer. when the only thing they really know how to do is install some light up washer nozzles.not trying to piss any one off but ,well its the truth.

Roboskittle I think you just did jump into it. ;-)
Do you have the information on how to do the 2.0 SPI swap? :-?
I care why he´s doing it because there´s an expensive and a cheap way to do it, and I see he wants to do the cheapest way w/o caring how much power he´s putting down. which is why I suggest replacing the 1.9 with another 1.9, no ecu or wiring harness swapping, no engine bay reconfiguring, no transmission worries, etc.

i thought the 2.5 in the probe gt was the KL-03 engine, the KL-ZE is the j-spec model. in which case, you arent going to find one in an american junk yard.

and if you just want a good engine that will be reliable and get you around town, dont even bother swapping anything, just put in what came out.
