I have a 1995 Escort GT, and I was wondering what engines can drop into the escort. I am running about 117000 on the original engine and its about had it. I am hoping I can get an engine which is more ready for tuning and mods. Please help me out here so I dont have to get rid of my car.

You can always go with the 1.8L GTX turbo motor. There are lots of extra´s you have to get saperatly though, so it adds up.

Yeah, GTX, but 117k, thats not usually the end for a scort.

Your engine SHOULD be in fine health yet. assuming it was maintained well. Its not hard to get 200K before a rebuild. the 1991-1996 Escort GT engines are actually a mazda BP motor. same motor that is in the miata´s. The GTX engine is a turbocharged version that came in the mazda 323. You can turbo yours, build up the engine itself and go all motor. its up to you and what your interest is. how extreme do you want to go? These BP engines are very strong. 300HP on the stock internals isn´t hard with ECU and fuel upgrades.
