I have an 1988 EXP with a 1.9 EFI ho engine. I'm having a hard time finding a 1.9 and I want to know what would be a good swap for more horsepower. It is a dirt race car

    Hello Mike,
Where are you located? There are places to find 1.9's... I have a rebuilt 1.9 sitting in the garage & enough blocks/cranks/rods/pistons to put a few short blocks back together. The cam in the rebuilt engine is a hydraulic circle track cam from SpeedPro. :)
My parts are in South Central Iowa...
I don't know what your track rules are- our 4 cylinder class rules are pretty strict about modifications... If you could get away with a different block, are allowed to run aftermarket ecu's and can pull the funds together to do so- you could stick a 3rd gen 2.0L SPI Shortblock & a ZX2 trans w/ a 2nd gen GT clutch in it- clean up (port match, bowl blend) the HO head, install some head studs & put together a MSII to control the thing... I'd sell you the camshaft if you can't find one on ebay.

Do you have to have a stock ecu? Do you have to have an engine that was factory installed in your car?
