I have a 1.9L that runs great when the weather is nice. Although engine surges when raining or after it rains. I can still drive it after a while it stops surging when engine warms up. Does anyone know what that could be?

Plug wires. I'de change out the plugs, as well. If this doesn't solve the problem, your ignition module (CDI) may have a crack in it which allows it to take on water when it rains.

Water + Electricity=spark jump, EVERYWHERE!

If you want to run a little test (just for fun) spray the wires and CDI down with a mist bottle (after dark) and watch the light show begin

Imma little late to the picture, but did you try replacing the Coilpack? My moms had a small crack in it I didn;'t notice til I thought her wires were loose... You know where I'm going with this one... yeah, those coils pack a punch. BTW, I was detailing under her hood, spraying it down with the Power Washer. Wet makes work 8O

Ignition module (coil pack/CDI) is the little block shaped unit with the four terminals that you plug wires hook onto. Spray it down with some windex and see what happens (in the dark)

I've also replaced those with the spark plug wires and spark plugs few months ago

Okay, just covering the bases...

Had a friend with a ZX2 Blow one of the poles off his coil-pack, never figured out why it did it, but he JB weilded it then drove it to a car show over 100Mi away, and back home  . Tough little buggers, right?

Could be the alternator going out... Mine would surge all the time for about a month b4 it went out. trust me, you'll know when it finally does. Most imbarrasing thing is to be in a Ford, on the side of the road waiting for someone to bring you a battery so you can make it home, or a toe-rope :D

double check your plug wires, honestly. i put on what i thought was a good set, turned out to be garbage. open your hood when its surging at night, i saw arcs going from the wires to the valve cover lol. changed them out and problem went away
