 How do you shut off the rev limiter? Im running a 1/3 mile ovel with a 95 1.9 escort. Halfway down the straightaway I am on the limiter I have tried different tire and it helped but I want the thing gone. Is it in the computer or in the head or some other place? Please I need some good advice.

rev limiter or governor? If you want to eliminate the gov, pull the e-brake 1 click so the light comes on. That will eliminate the gov?

After 6200 it just starts cutting out i think it is the rev limter. I didnt know their even was a govner on the dam thing. i just need a few more rrr to get me to the corner and shifting is not an option becouse it falls flat on it"s face. I am going to change the head to a 87 Im still confused on spring. I keep reading about dubbel spring out of a 2.3 but i am still confused. Shoulld thay be out of a mustang or a pinto? Sorry im better at racing than spelling.

wait. you have a 1.9... that you are revving to 6200 rippems? at that rpm it's already on it's face assuming it's a stock motor... the 1.9 tends to drop around 4500~... or am i not catching something here.?

Larger rim and tire combo and install a bump stop to keep the tire from hitting the sub frame... at 6200RPM's you're not gaining anything and are WAAAYYYYY beyond the useable power curve of the 1.9 unless you have it built to extreme levels.

Judging by your comment on the 2.3L valve spring mod, I'm guessing the poor thing is stock. 8O

My guess is that your valves are floating...

lolz yep. Thats not a rev limiter, that's old valve springs letting the valves float.
But even if you put in better springs, not really gonna make a difference on a motor designed to have a power band stop at 5k.

oh and putting a 1st gen head on a 2ng gen block will give you about 8:1 C/R, so you might not want to do that.

6200 is impressive already, because unless you're in fifth already, you should be shifting to the next gear no later than ~5100.

6200 is so far past the end of the power curve that a decent headwind will cause you to lose more speed than shifting will. and even a good turbo isn't going to gain you very much at that end of the curve.

past 6200? lemee know when/where, and I'll try to be in the stands. It's fun to watch hoods blow off.

Ok sorry been out trucking for the week. I know where the power band is and threw the corner I am in it hard this is where I am passing everybody but on the straightaway I get my ass kicked. The motor is stock haven’t done any machine work. I have change tire every size you can think. I want the thing to turn more RPM’S I have raced it about 100 time and it has stayed together. I don’t think you could blow the dam thing up. IF it dose they are easy as hell change and I know not to do that again. How do you figure the 8:1 C/R? No there is no turbo class. For this class it has to be stock ha or at least stock appearing. I think you guys are right that I am floating the valves I am racing in second and third gear just isn’t an option I have tried it but it just not going to happen for this car. The 5K power band is working when I need it to I just need to keep the rpm up down the strata way this will allows me to Carry more speed threw the corner and be in the power band where I need it witch it coming out of the corner. If you give me advise on how to make it turn more RPM’s I will take pitcher of the motor when it blows!!!!

What about different gear ratios? You could run a ZX2 trans that has lower gearing. Then 3rd would be more usable.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is a rev limiter in these cars. I also race a stock 1.9L and at a big 1/4 small 1/3 mile track she kicks in at 6200, feel sorry for my poor car 300 laps, 600 times hittin the rev limiter. Also what size tires are you running there, try goin to like 195 14's, I currentley run 175 13's.

Try a 195/70/15 it will drop the rpms by 300+ and may just keep you from blowing the thing to the stratoshpere.
