My brake lights stay on permanently unless I pull the fuse that is at the bottom center row of the fuse panel under the dash. They stay on with the car off too. This has affected power locks too.
I have already replaced the brake light switch above the brake pedal.
Any suggestions? The car is mint otherwise!

there is a rubber "stopper" that the BOO switch contacts to turn off (boo is brake on/off switch) look at the brake pedal underneath, there is a bracket... I guarantee you will find a flat round piece of rubber on the floor. Install a new "stopper" and you'll be good to go. Should be able to find a new one in the Help section of an auto parts store.

It appears as though that piece of rubber is still there, are there other possible electrical issues that can cause this?

Check the adjustment of the same switch. When I bought my car, the switch was out of adjustment, causing the same problem because the brake pedal wasn't pushing on the switch.

Is it only the break light or on the fron the markers appear on too?
If the power locks are giving trouble you have a short somewhere.

The last commenter is on to something there - I ended up having to bypass the original wire with a new one, right to the back lights. I still have no power locks and I have no functional rear wiper but at least my brake lights work properly and my radio functions (gotta rock on the hiway)

So it wasn't the BOO.

But you gotta start somewhere.
Anywayz, anyone else ever have this short out? Love to hear solutions!

is this a wagon ? if so - check where the wires come out to the hatch... they are known to break.

Thats rightit is a wagon.... is it those rubber gromets in the hatch door that hide the wires?

yea - you should see the wires coming out of the/near roof of car and come out and enter the top of the hatch - look for broken wires and repair as neccasary.. this is a common problem in wagons.

I remember having to repair a wire in that loom of my 95 wagon as well. But I think mine only affected the rear defrost.
