EGT suspension difficulty

I am having a typical escort gt problem which is my strut assembly and springs. First, my strut is coming through the metal, since the mount broke. Second, I am unsure of what to do with the problem. Everyone keeps telling me something different and I really am totally uneducated in this area of cars. I dont know whether I should just buy two rear struts and springs OEM or would it be better to go with coil overs or just four new lowering springs all around? I just dont know what to buy, I have been looking around for weeks and still do not have a solution. Please any feedback to solving this problem is highly appreciated, thank you.

So your rubber upper strut mount failed? You need to replace it then, and check the others to make sure they are not on there way out also. Do you want the car lower or stock ride height?
reponse

Yes it is broke, the left one is a little rusty but not to serious. The right is actually coming through the hole and the spring is broken on the right as well. I am going to have my friend re-weld the top, but i am unsure what to buy besides the mount. I would like to have the car lowered a little, not much so what would be better?
- So would buying two new rear struts since im sure the right one is broken and the left one will probably go soon, one right mount, and 4 all around lowering springs that will fit OEM struts?
From what I've read on here, you don't want to use lowering springs on stock struts. If you want to lower it, the popular way seems to be with S/R struts & Eibach springs. That is the setup I am using, and I like it.
If you read the suspension guide sticky at the top of this forum, it will tell you all you need to know as far as what will work for lowering your GT.
Well I would say replace the top mounts and get some lowering springs. If you have to buy springs, you may as well get some lowering springs. I ran Eibach lowering springs on stock struts for almost 4 years and never had a problem, so if you want to save some money just do that, but if you want the best without buying coilovers, get some eibach springs with a set of SR struts and I think you will be pleased.
