help!! my 95 escort has just recently started running rough. i changed the plugs, wires, fuel filter and fuel pump. that did not solve the problem. I took it to the shop and I was told the cat converter was bad. they also told me to check the egr valve. i know where the cat is, but where is the egr valve? is it located on/in the cat. I have a 1.9 eng.
please help!! this is driving me crazy. im tired of getting the run around.

It's on the firewall side of the intake manifold right after the throttle body. It's held on by two 8mm capscrews. There is about a 3" metal saucer for lack of a better term that has a single vac line coming from it which is part of the valve. It also has about a 1" pipe coming out of the bottom of it that loops around under the throttle body and goes to right on top of the exhaust manifold. If you follow that pipe from the exhaust manifold, it will lead you directly to the EGR valve. (This is the best I can do without a photo  )

What you want to do is when you get this off, you want to clean the valve and the seat that's inside it. Make sure that both the valve and the seat are clear and free of carbon buildup. You can use standard carb and intake cleaner.

The chances of cat being plugged are pretty low. When was the last time you changed your PCV valve?

Usually when the 1.9's start running rough it's because they're running lean due to a vac leak. I'd reccomend checking the vac lines for leaks.

Good Luck
