Hi guys, I have a 2002 SOHC with a 2001 engine.

Im pulling a P0401 and after a long time of trying to track it down, I broke down and took it to the dealer(for registration reasons). They told me the EGR vacuum regulator is bad. Actually they just called it the EGR regulator. Usually this is a solenoid or something right? Well they said it's just a tube. I can't find it anywhere to buy new. Do you guys know exactly what part this is? Is it the black tube that is mounted on the fire wall next to the DPFE(towards the passenger side) or is it the check valve that is connect to the brake booster line? If anyone can help me out that'd be great.

Thanks!!

Ed

Mine is a 2nd gen Escort, a 94, so may be very different - but it does have an EGR vacuum regulator. It is one of the two modules bolted to the firewall. One of them has a gray plastic or rubber hose running over to tie into the metal EGR tube, right near where it connects to the EGR valve on the intake manifold. The gray plastic/rubbery tube was partly burnt, due to the heat of the metal EGR tube. I made up a piece of copper tubing to patch it up. One of the two modules sitting next to each other on the firewall is the EGR vacuum regulator. I think it controls the EGR valve, but i have no idea what the module does that has the connection to the gray plastic hose. I was not able to find that hose anywhere (tho I didnt ask at the Ford dealer). These parts are inconvenient, being at the back of the engine compartment - but are at least in-view. Both of them also have electrical connectors, and are conected into the wiring harness.

Yup, well I think you're talking about the EGR solenoid.. which as of a few minutes ago found that ford calls that solenoid the egr vacuum regulator. Weird thing is that I changed out both those components you were talking about, egr vacuum regulator and the dpfe(the little box with exhaust hoses to it) and after taking it to the dealer they still said it's the egr regulator. They made it sound like the regulator is the vacuum tree that feed the egr solenoid and the brake booster, etc. So im still a bit confused but Im going to recheck the solenoid voltages and harness.
