So... I put my tracer fogs on the Escort. (I hacked up the old bumper cover just to expose the lights, as I mounted them in the Tracer position.)

I put in the OEM MFS, put in a fuse in the proper location, wired the fogs using existing harnesses on the car, tested the lights off the batt (both work), both ends of the fuse are wired on the back of the box, and the fuse is getting power...

No light. I cant test right now if the sockets at the lights are getting power, the tester is my Dads, and he wanted it back.

Am I missing something along the line between the fuse and the bulb?

ETA: just reviewed this thread, gotta mess with the relay: http://www.feoa.net/threads/how-to-3rd-gen-factory-fog-light-install-on-sedan.70060/

I'm contemplating installing fogs on my escort. It isn't prewired. I have the OEM MFS already on the steering column as it has the provision to switch to a fog light. Since I don't have the fog loom is there an Escort specific wire loom kit with proper bulb connector and, if so, who sells it? How does the wiring go in regards to what gets connected to where? I read a how to on here but the wiring was already installed from the factory. It says that two wires get put through the firewall but where do they connect to once inside? To the column or to the fuse box? Everything else seems fairly common sense.

You will have to hunt down the OEM connectors at a JY, then run an aftermarket generic wiring harness with relay running them just like any other set of aux lights... EXCEPT the switch line. That line will go to the fuse marked 'FOG' using a fuse jumper. If I can't get mine to work using that How-To thread listed above, what I described is the way I am going to do it.

I think that FEOA Member Schwinnman67 did something very similar, maybe send him a message when you have the pigtails. Either way, I'll keep an eye out for a set...

Sorry, once inside, they ride the same harness that the marker light, blinker, and headlight run through. Follow the blinker wires back up to the harness (only about 6 inches or so) you should see where the headlight and corner light also come out. If there is a 4th set of wires, that would be the fogs. As the story goes "only 'fully loaded'" escorts have them, so to me, that means 'LXs' are not having them.

My ZX2 was not pre wired for fog lights. I used a universal fog light relay and ran my own wires. I tapped into the low beam side of the MFS (fog light equipped switch) for the switched power (so the fog lights turn off when the high beams are on). I tapped the ground side of the fog light switch to ground and ran the other (white/green wire) out to the relay.
The fog light switch is the ground for the relay. I got the 12v from the pos battery terminal. I ran 2 wires inside the car (drilled a hole in the clutch mc block off plate) and bolted the relay to the left strut tower.

Forgive my ignorance, I'm not so good with electrical but I love to learn.

"and ran the other (white/green wire) out to the relay." Do you mean you ran your own wire from the white/green wire connection on the MFS or did you actually splice into the wire loom itself? I haven't had the column apart so I don't know what it looks like under there. What gauge wire for runs?

Off topic, there is a red orange wire that is supposed to run into my rear gate. Do you know, off hand, what it controls? Which color wire is a live main power line? I want to hook up the rear gate light.

Care to direct me to a reliable, economical fog light relay that will just pop in without having to modify it? I read a How to and it mentioned something about having to cut the skirt off the input socket of the relay. Hoping I can get a correctly sized one that pops in without modification.

Since I'm in there I might as well go pull a lower steering column panel from a ZX2 that has the trunk release button from the yard and wire that up too.

Need to check for the 10 amp fuse in the fog slot on the fuse blocknext to the relay panel under the dash to the left of the steering column where the relay goes.

When I got the junkyard MFS, I cut the plug with some wire on it. I spliced on to the wire and ran that out to the engine compartment. The other wire I spliced to a ground wire for the MFS.
I used a universal fog light relay that had a mounting tab (got it at Autozone) and bolted it to the left strut tower. The only splicing I did on my harness was to get a low beam signal wire and the ground. I used an inline fuse holder for the 12v to relay and to the lights.

I'll look at the wiring diagram and see if I can find the wire your talking about for your tail gate, but hopefully another wagon owner will be able to answer your question sooner.

Again sorry for being so naive. Up to here I get. Splice into the white green wire coming out of the MFS and splice into the MFS ground.

This is where it gets a little foggy for me. So once you've spliced the white green wire on the MFS and ran it out to the engine bay how do you connect it to the relay? The how to says that the relay plugs into the relay board under the dash. I assume the fog light wiring harness that came with the authors car must have been wired from the relay block.

Once you have connected the white green connected wire to the relay does that connect to the ground side wiring on the loom you make? You had said previous that you connected the hot side directly to the battery with a fuse holder spliced in is that correct?

The only splicing I did on my harness was to get a low beam signal wire and the ground. I used an inline fuse holder for the 12v to relay and to the lights.
Do you know what color wire is the low beam signal wire or are they different for each year? If so then I guess I'm going to need to break out my tester and see which one wire is powered when the low beams are on.

If you don't mind going to the trouble if you could write out a flow chart of connections it might be easier for a novice like me to understand how the connections go. For example, you could do it like this:

Start with MFS switch with fog light switch -> splice signal wire to white green wire in MFS ->splice ground wire from relay to MFS ground wire ->?

I made a stand alone harness for my fog lights... The only connections to the vehicles harness are
1. power wire for low beam headlights (don't know the color)
2. ground wire for fog light switch to ground for MFS
3. white/green wire from fog switch

My ZX2 was not pre-wired for factory fog lights, so I had to do it this way (or replace my harness with one from a fog light equipped ZX). Basically all the fog light switch does is provide a ground to the relay (when it's turned on). The wire for the low beam sends a switch power to the relay when the low beams are on and turns off the fog lights when the high beams are turned on.

I used quick taps for the low beam and ground near the plug for the MFS. I soldered the splice for the signal out to the relay (white/green wire).
I'll try and get pics this weekend of my relay mounting and the way I ran the harness on the front.
Basically if you buy a fog light install kit it will have the wires and relay, I added 2 inline fuses and a factory MFS with fog lights (cut the plug long enough to have wire to splice to).

These are all valid and good ways to wire up fog lights. However, if you want to greatly simplify this entire process and have working fog lights in less than one hour you could just get a $20 fog light wiring harness kit with relay on eBay for example, and simply tap into the low beam wire behind your headlight under the hood. This way there is no switch, no hacking into factory wiring, and nothing to take apart or connect between the engine compartment and passenger compartment. The fogs will turn on automatically with the low beams and off with the high beams.

The part number for the connector that plugs into the fog lamp bulb is 1P1032. It fits the 898 factory fog bulb. I tried another brand that supposedly fit but the clips were a little different. Here's a rockauto link: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=932050

HTH!
